Hello everyone I'm new to this site, and I've been learning a lot of things. I was hoping for help on a pocket knife I have. All I know is that its a Barlow and I think it was made in Japan. Can someone with more knowledge then me tell me anything about it? Is it worth repairing?

It's a very inexpensive knife. What needs repairing?

What needs repairing? It's a dandy knife, definitely made in Japan. Probably cost only a few dollars when new and is not worth much more than that now. Depending on what needs fixed, you would be ahead to buy a new knife.

Would you try to repair it yourself for pay to get it repaired? I don't think it is worth paying to repair it as the cost would be more than it is worth (unless it has sentimental value).

If you would like to attempt your own repair, it would be a good one to practice on.

I have more then just this one. I've been wanting to learn more about repairing and even building one my self. Is there a way to find info on this knife?

You have a common older Barlow that is not worth very much monetarily. I think it may be a Sabre brand but not sure. The tang stamp definitely shows it's made in Japan. I personally would not spend the money to have new covers put on it because it would cost you $40 or more to replace them. You can buy a great used USA made Barlow for that price or less. I think I would just use it as is and move on to your next knife.

Kind of off topic question. How can I sand or some how clean up the area the blades sit when its closed. Without taking it apart

Tape over the blades so you don't cut yourself in case you slip.
A bit of steelwool or 3M scothbrite pad on the end of a popsickle stick should do the trick.
You could try a bit of cloth over a stick with some mag wheel polish or any type of metal polish.
Hope this helps

I think that'd be a fine knife to practice modifying on if you were so inclined. Knowing it's not worth much makes it easier to take it apart and see what makes it tick.
Or just sharpen it up and carry! Both are fine options.

Is there a way to find info on this knife?

Have you looked on ebay?

Yours might be a Sabre but I think it looks like a Monarch. Both of them available for $10 or less on ebay.

A good way to find info on an unknown knife is to find it on Ebay. That can lead you to a name or model number that you can google for more info.

I just found this Monarch model #2209 on Ebay, looks pretty similar to yours.
