Remember the pass around bowie that L6 started a couple years ago? It is in my hands now! Its a pretty cool bowie! It is evident that one maker did not create this piece. It shows talent and haas character from all angles and will be a head turner at any show. I think one of you literate types should begin a story on it and lets get in the mags. Shop-Talk is overdue for the press. Who wants to write it? The knife will be done except for a sheath is just a couple more weeks at the most. L6 Where does it go from here?

What a great idea! I'd be willing to give it a shake--why not have two or more folks write up possible articles, and then we can post them here, and get the community's thoughts on which we should submit? Since this was a group project, I would think that the group ought to have some say in what gets written, no?

Also, since this project predates the conversion here at BFC, are all of the posts relative to the Passaround Bowie available in the Archives, or do we have to write Spark for those?

Lemme know, and I'll see if'n I can't whip something up to tell this story! I've always wanted to get involved with this project, but my knifemaking skills aren't quite up to the par of the rest of the participants. Maybe my writing skills will be the ticket...!

:D ;)

Kal, Im up for all your suggestions. We need to hear from L6 on the subject as he started the project. You may want to start compiling info now. Any other thoughts? Anybody?

The sheath. If nobody is dedicated for it yet I would suggest Sandy. He has been very active on Shop Talk. gain L6 has the answers probally.

I am still up for the sheath.......way back we arranged that someone should get some gatorskin and send to me along with the knife......?

IMHO the ivory on it is abit dark for a good contrast on scrimshaw. We can always let Anders Johnason make that decision. Where is he located? Anybody have any Aligater skin they care to donate?

I can't even go to the golf course without seeing the toothy buggers but I cannot find any skin available at all.

Wow Marcel, that is great, and very generous of you!!!! I don't know why the stuff is so hard to find down here in gatorville. Guess they ship it all off someplace else.

Hey, can I get an email address for everybody who's contributed to this project? Once I'm done reading the huge backlong of posts, detailing the history of this thing, I'll have some questions to ask each of you. Y'know...the 'human interest' side... :P

Yeah, yeah...I KNOW I could just search through the couple hundred posts about it, and dig them up, but I thought, "Gee, it'd be nice to get this article written sometime THIS CENTURY..."

So, do my lazy butt a favour and let's get everyone who's had a hand in/on/around this knife to pipe up, neh?

Thanks, folks!! :D

Kal

I emailed Anders the scrim artist. I havent heard from him yet but I havent given him much time yet. Are we sure we want to send this bowie to Sweden? Im half way afraid to send this baby out of the country. I have a vision of a swedish postman with a custom bowie colection.

I emailed Marcel to send the gator skin to Ansoknives.

I have the fit and finish done and will take it to engraver Tom Moro in the morning. We are rolling.

Okay, I've printed out all of the threads I can find about this puppy. I've only gotten email from Bruce, so far, so the rest of you'se guys gimme a yell, so I can chat with ya offline about it.

I'm headed out of town to Branson on vacation tomorrow (wife's fam'bly's annual thing--I'm sure to have a good bit of free time), and I plan to do the initial write-up during my stay in Little Vegas.

We got pictures of this thing, in development, right? Maybe if I can get some of them sent over to me, I can photoshop them up, and get an idea of what we have to work with. I'd like to be able to support the article with photos, if at all possible! But, to do it, I gotta know what we got pics of... :D

Looking forward to cuddling up in MO with my transcripts, a highlighter, and spiral...

Kal

P.S.--Oh, hey...I just noticed...we have new smilies!!! :grumpy:

I have heard from Anders in Sweden. They still want to do the scrim on the ivory. This baby is getting some miles on her. The engraving is almost finished. Anyone have any suggestions on sending out of the country? Should I write "Valuable Custom Bowie Knife" or what on the box? Insurance, confirmation, ect.?

Bruce, when ever I send a knife overseas I always mark the customs forms Tools. I would insure it and put a good value on it, atleast $1500 if not more. It costs a little more I know but it's well worth it just in case, especially on a knife with this much history behind it. Lemme know how much the shipping is and I'll cover half of it.
