and I don't quite know what to make of it. It appears to me to be a variation of at two blade congress. It is a full size knife with two identical pen or small spear blades. Is this thing something that was common or is it an oddball variation of the pattern? I bought it years ago because I had never seen a knife like it before and I don't think I've seen one like it since.

So if anyone can shed some light on this mystery (to me) knife, I would certainly appreciate it.

Ugliest celluloid handles I've ever seen I think.

Yes, It does have two different tang stamps. The extended blade in the picture has one standing dog and 1996 stamped above the dog with "Handmade" under the dog.
The other stamp has two fighting dogs with "Handmade" underneath. So I think you have it nailed as far as identity.

Would that combination of blades been seen before or after the transition? I think all of the other congress patterns I've seen had at least one "sheepsfoot" blade. It just seemed a little odd to me and so I thought I'd ask about it. I really appreciate your input.

I think one of the blades has the "Fighting Dog" (up to 1995) stamp and the other has the "Standing Dog" (1996) stamp.

I don't find that ugly at all! In fact, it's an appealing pattern, kind of mutated Muskrat.

I didn't mean to imply that the pattern itself was ugly, just that it was unusual and I hadn't seen any other one like it. I do find it somewhat odd in that it has those short spear blades in a full size congress handle.

I did mean to imply, no, actually convey, that the scales/handles were ugly. The picture doesn't do them justice. :D
