I know that it is coming and one day, I want to HT my stuff, no doubt; But, I do not want to spend 5K on HT tools this soon. I may have a gas forge in the near future that is perfect for HT. It is the tooling to verify hardness that kicks you in the tweeter. I dont care that a file that tells me within 5 hrc. I cant spend days bringing out a piece, just to see that it might be useful.
I am hoping that ABS knows the best there ever was and the prices are reasonable.

AEBL or belt-fed; that is how I feel about it.

Unless you want to spend about $1000 on a good Rockwell tester, you can do the HT and get the knives tested at a shop with a hardness tester.

Machine Shop
Custom Spring shop
Nearby Knifemaker with a calibrated hardness tester. I see by pulling up your info you are in Prattville (AL?). Maybe there is a maker near you who can help.

It would be good to get to know that chap, and others around you.

BTW, I like your avatar. I have a tie pin like it with a plain cross instead of a crucifix. I am an odd blend, raised Presbyterian, then a Methodist lay speaker and assistant pastor, then Presbyterian elder and regularly in the pulpit, ... and not too long ago, bar mitzvahed in Temple Israel. (Still on the presbyterian church session).

You've got all the bases covered, Stacy.

I'm gonna say I know you if I ever get to the Pearly Gates.

Do you have recommendation on a good hardness tester for $1000?

They show up on eBay in good condition for around that regularly, but there is no warranty and WYSIWYG.
Grizzly sells a good unit for just a bit over $1000 ... plus shipping.
You can pick up a used Ames portable on eBay for around $300 sometimes. These are a lot better than files, but not quite as accurate as a bench model.
Whatever you get make sure it does Rockwell C.

I had been a gypsy about it myself. ;) Thank you sir, I would like it for a makers mark.
