Well, I realized I wanted a Sebbie. Large or small? Classic or regular? I decided to get a small and a large classic, in addition to several other CRK pieces. Then I thought about whether to use it for EDC or special carry. Much prodding from those Devils of Jerzee, specifically a certain bounty hunter, has made me decide to at least give my Sebs a try for EDC, when I finally get around to buying them.

I was surfing CRK's website yesterday, and made the mistake of looking at the micarta and wood inlay Sebbies. I want a pair of micarta inlay Sebbies and cocobolo wood inlay Sebbies. I realize that Sebbies are like potato chips, you can't have just one, but I don't know if I can afford more than four right now (I can't believe I just typed that). Should I get the wood inlay Sebbies first, and use those, and not worry about getting a classic large and small? Or should I get the classic Seb pair, and get the wood inlay for special carry later on?

Also, a damascus Sebbie figures in there somewhere  .

If I had to start all over and pick only one Sebenza to have for EDC I would go with the Large Classic Micarta Inlay Sebenza. It is what I am carrying right now in an old style Gfeller Sebenza belt pouch.

You should also get a Mnandi. Can't believe you haven't figured that by yourself ;)

I love my snakewood Mnandi.

I'd have to agree with James on this one. Hard to beat a Micarta inlay as a daily user. I'm partial to the large LE but I know I wouldn't push it as hard as I would with the micarta inlay.:)

Oh yeah and about an answer to your question. Micarta first, wood inlays for special carry later.

StJames and Scottdog have a good point, it's hard to beat the micarta's for a first EDC user. But consider the blade style of the regular vs. classic. I actually find the large regular Seb to be the best overall utility folder. The regular is slightly beefier and stout, where the classic is more tapered and fighter style if you will. Add wood or ivory to either and you have one heck of a nice combo, huh Scott? :D
Add stainless Damascus to that and, well...you get where I'm going with this.

My thoughts exactly, I actually prefer the regular(sm. and lg.) to the classic style. Now, when is that Micarta Regular coming out;) :D

There's something about a reg seb that sets all the others apart. The fit and feel in your hand, not to mention the ease of deployment. Believe me, there are very few knives that equal the seb, custom or production!

I would suggest a large or small micarta inlay. Caryr it until it gets good and smooth, then go from there.

I really like my large regular, but I have to think that the micarta would be a big Plus. I've never used a classic blade, but I think that I would like it almost as much as the regular and that the micarta grip would outweigh the blade shape.

Agreed with the Micarta in laid.

I went from decorated to wood in laid to plain to micarta. If I were to do it all over again or have to keep just one it would be the micarta.

Nice combo indeed. The wood you got there is great! Maybe I'll try to go for a maple Burl large next year.;)

Buy the one that calls to you.
The inlaid knives feel better in my hand than the plain ones, and wood calls me stronger than micarta.

Thanks Scott. Didn't you just aquire a burled LE Seb? BTW mine is Spalted Maple not maple burl. The burls are just as nice though. I recently traded for an 2005 small LE Ambonya wood Seb. It's a real nice burl, almost redish in color.

Lefty, sweet! That's a pretty unusual looking burl. Very original. Does the back match the front pattern?

Scott thats one of the best looking knives I've seen in a long time.

cheers

Got a small with micarta here. It's my EDC and worth every penny that I spent for it.

Thought about a large, but I was afraid it would be too big to carry around in my pocket. But once I got the knife and realized I was going to carry it around clipped to the pocket, I sort of regretted that decision.

The small micarta is a great EDC. And just think...now you have that reason for getting a new large Sebbie! :D

ScottDog,

That's so sweet that the CR shop matched your inlays(back and front). Shows why, once again they won the Blade Show's Manufacturing Quality Award. Well deserved.
