And the reason is an old, old, old, natural cure called "KEFIR" also called "Tibetan Mushrooms" and supposedly handed down to the Prophet Mohammad by Allah.

If interested google search "kefir".

Then ebay search "kefir" and purchase some grains.

All you have to do is put the grains into some fresh milk bought right off the grocery store shelf, let it sit at room temperature until it ferments to your taste, then drink as much as you desire.

If you've had a problem with acid reflux, this has completely stopped mine.I drink a glass in the morning and before bed at night. It is also a fabulous appetite depressant and 7 pounds have been lost in 2 weeks time.

I've been giving some to the Yorkies and they love it :)

I'd appreciate any tales, experiences, personal anecdotes, or observations from the cantinisters on kefir.

I have made kefir many, many, many times. I have used the grains, but Lifeway plain kefir makes a good starter culture too.

what's the difference between kefir and yoghurt ~ I'm too lazy to google? :D

Microscopic organisms, evidently. It seems that the consistancy is a bit different too.

I'm now on the hunt for some grains. Might as well give it a shot. The enthusiasts seem to be...well...enthusiastic.

Kefir has yeast in it too, so it can be fizzy if you cap it off while you are incubating it.

I like to make Kefir when I am milking goats cause you incubate it at room temp, where yogurt is like 110 to 115. Kefir also has a sort of citrus like flavor compared to yogurt.

"Thanks to whomever gave me another cactus. I appreciate it!!"

Just a bit of cat waulering... In my efforts to be a shinning example of a resident forum troll by earning a RED cactus. I respectfully request all HI Forumites to cast your RED reputation points my way.

I appreciate it.
Never have enough

Grains arrived and I'm making kefir. First few batches have turned out right.
My wife who is Russian smelled and tasted it and agreed. I started buying the
stuff at the store for her and then read this. So we will see. I'll keep you posted.

Hope she likes it.

I was fermenting a batch in 2% milk in the plastic jug that the milk came in and did not pour out about a 1/4 of the milk so the fermentation would have plenty of room. Got up the next morning and the top had blown off the jug and the kefir was bubbling out of the top of the jug.

This stuff (kefir)is addictive. I tried to drink a couple of speciality beers yesterday afternoon(a Hen's tooth and a Sapporo) and they tasted much worse than cow urine. How do I know? I used to milk cows and would sometimes fall asleep with my head resting against the cow's flank with my mouth falling open. The cow would relieve herself and guess where the first splash would go. So I poured a tall glass of the kefir and resumed "living large" as the enzyte commercial says. :D

Way to rub it in, Clearblue. :)

The grains will be mine...maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but eventually.
