I have an Odel and I have to say. Its one of the sharpest blades I have ever owned. Easy to sharpen and classic in design. Any other Helle fans?

I have one, and have given others as gifts. Fine knives, a Scandinavian style but with a much higher fit-and-finish level than the usual Mora knives.

My personal model is the Millstone, one that doesn't get much mention even when Helle knives are being discussed.

My Eggen is one of the sharpest NIB knives I've ever seen and owned. Amazing knives & blades, especially for the price.

I think that most Americans just don't 'dig' thin steels and the simplistic designs.

I think most Americans are going to be attracted by availability as well as quality. We here on Bladeforums know where to get Helle and other Scandinavian knives, but they are generally smaller companies with minimal advertising here. I have two Helles myself, and they are excellent and distinctive working knives.

You would probably get a greater density of knowledgeable responses discussing them on the Wilderness & Survival Skills forum, where a question like this is much more common. These are the kinds of knives popular among us there.

No better blades for the buck on earth. I have several and love them to death.

I have a Brakkar that I bought used(here on BF.c ), and it's a permanent part of my picnic/camping gear. I love it!

Helles are awesome.
Good looking & sharp too.

Great knives, sturdy, light, terrific for backpacking. Their laminated blades are a high carbon sandwiched between tough stainless; you can bend them but they are unlikely to break. But they're cutters, not meant for batoning through logs or similar abuse. The sheaths, however, largely suck. I used the one my Eggen came with as a pattern and made another out of thicker, stronger leather.

The sharpest knife I own is a Helle Symfoni (like Cliff's third from top). It came sharp, but the grind was steeper on one side than the other. I ground it down and, while a Bark River mini-Canadian sometimes competes for top honors, it remains the absolute sharpest knife in my household.

I recently bought a Helle Tollekniv blade from Ragnar and am in the process of constructing a handle for it. Like StretchNM mentioned, the grind isn't exactly symmetrical, but since it needs work to be truly sharp, I'll take care of it then. It's a pretty stout laminated blade that should make for a fine user once I get the handle glued on. Good price for a fun project.

About the only thing i DIDN'T like about my Tollekniv was the shape of the handle near the butt end,so I whittled it off & now it's much better for me.
It's the 2nd one from the top in the pic above.

And the rest of my Scandis...all users.

I consider my Helle Harding one of the prettiest knives I own. Wicked sharp, too! I love it and will be buying other Helles in the future, I'm sure.

Stay sharp,
