I made a thread the other day asking about what's a good knife for my wife...nothing but edc for sd.

Well...we went to dicks sporting goods.... and she picked up a leek, she liked it.
So I found one on line....and got it for $39.90 shipped she really wanted the rainbow one but she said pink handled one is fine.

Is this a good one.....I'm new to kershaw. (((6061-T6 Anodized Pink Aluminum Handle)))

Thanks again guys!

While I'm not really a fan of Kershaw or the Leek, my experience with women and knives says that she'll do fine with it. Its not too big; the handle is slim and small enough to fit their hands; its easy to open; and the blade doesn't intimidate the crap out of them.

For some reason, most chicks when handed a real knife, (for whatever reason), don't choke up on the blade, and hold it way back towards the rear....the Leek I'm sure she'll be confident with.

Just remember, NO knife is indestructible. They all require maintenance. So check in on your wife's knife periodically to inspect the edge, and any grime thats building up and have her sharpen it or touch it up, and clean it and oil it. By doing this, she will gain a better appreciation for her knife, along with the ability to handle it, and future others.

Damn...a friend told me it's not the best steel, so I didn't get it. Now I gotta to search for a better one.:grumpy:

It is Sandvik 14C28N i think. It is the same steel that kershaw uses on their skyline which imho is a pretty good steel. Not as good as s30v or d2 but it will get a very sharp edge. If this is for you wife id recommend it because it will be easier to sharpen than something like D2. It honestly is a great steel for a beginner, for her second knife you can get her the 056X in elmax lol.

So your wife told you that was the one she wanted and you are going to pick out something else? Best bet is to get what she likes since there is a better chance she will carry it. My wife has that exact knife and while the steel is not "the best" steel it is still a good steel and fine for an EDC blade I find it extremely easy to sharpen though it will not hold an edge for as long as a better steel.

Why not get your wife the G10 Leek with the S30V steel. You'll get the model she wanted, with the great steal she deserves. Problem solved.

Not the best steel for what? What's your wife going to be doing with this knife? Give it a chance and I think you'll be more than happy with it.

The plain steel is probably fine for her, I wouldn't have a problem with it. How is she carrying it? I wonder about carrying an assisted-opening knife in a purse, will it jostle around enough to try to open itself? There is a lock but it slows down access to the knife.

Several years ago my daughter wanted a knife so I envisioned her getting a tiny little knife but she picked out a Benchmade mini-griptilian. She contemplated the Leek because I was carrying the G10/S30V Leek model at the time but she decided for purse-carry she didn't want assisted-opening. She also carries it frequently clipped in her front jeans pocket.

Don't know....he told me it was china steel, so I wanted to pass on it.

Carry it in her pocket.

He would be incorrect...don't listen to him anymore. :)

The steel is probably Sandvik 14C28N.....most definitely NOT a Chinese steel. Why would an American made knife use Chinese steel? Kershaw has never used Chinese steel on their USA manufactured knives. Like I said...give it chance and I'm confident you'll be happy with the performance.

Nothing else will go into her pocket...at least not the one she'll have the knife in....

And I'm gonna order the one I cancelled! :o

Thanks guys.

The Leek Is A Great Knife And Is Really "Bang For Your Buck".
If She Wants The Rainbow One Though... I'd Get It. It Is The Prettiest One Lol.
But Pink Works Too If She Really Likes Pink.

Yeah...I ordered the pink one....she said she is fine with that. Should get it with a week or so....also I need to take some pictures of the zt 0200 that I just got! Maybe I'll wait and take a new fam pictures....I'm new to kershaw.
