So after reading thru the victorinox section again last night. I went ahead and picked up a recruit.

It really is pretty darn perfect size EDC.

I am still salty I somehow lost my skeletool which was in all honesty my real every day carry for the past 5 years or so.
I just couldn't swing the extra money to replace it right now so I been using an old box cutter for work and I wasn't happy about it. Felt nekkid.

So I was reading thru here and was thinking between either a recruit or a cadet and lo and behold we sell recruits at my work and just so happened to have a couple in stock

So here we are

Welcome to the club, bud!

I suggest looking into getting a 4 inch Knippex Cobra XS to go with your new Recruit.

I feel your pain. It's so important to put lanyards on your EDC knives/multitools. I recommend using some bright orange reflective paracord. Cut a suitable length of it, melt both ends with a lighter, tie it in a loop, and cow hitch it to your tool. Then cow hitch the other end to your belt loop, and shove the tool in your pocket. Cow hitches are super fast and easy to do or undo.

If the tool falls out of your pocket, the lanyard catches it and stops it from hitting the ground. If you absentmindedly set the tool down somewhere or you drop it, then the brightly colored and reflective lanyard makes it a heckuv a lot easier to find.

I think I set it down at work...and someone walked off with it. But I can't prove it.

Lol I see a couple welcome to the club messages
I am not new

I got an old Wenger SI that I carried for years but now I know I can't replace it even tho it's similar to the pioneer. The bail is much better.
I got a pioneer in black alox which ...just doesn't speak to me the same way as the si does but at least I can replace it. Unfortunately they don't make an alox version that keeps the second blade (see recruit hehe)
And an green alox classic that stays on my keys. I just wish the dang blade opened the other way away from the keyring (and my keys lol).
And now the recruit..which I chose because I have become accustomed to knives without back tools which are just less comfortable to use

Still considering either a bantam or a cadet for the future but they are just...I dunno not necessary but kinda cool

Oh and a florist I think it is...single sheepsfoot. Chisel ground that a customer gifted me a few years ago. Love that one too

I know of what you speak.

My old war horse Wenger SI and I, have been over a few hills and back. I'd hate for anything to happen to it, but I love that knife soooooo much. Its my go-to knife when taking off on a trip of unknown factors. My daily classic handles so much of what I need, but it is still a classic and has short comings for cutting a sandwich I half, and larger cutting jobs. I hate the pioneer because of the placement of the keyring being just right to irritate the hell out of me.

Victorinox; BRING BACK THE PUCKING HOLLOW RIVIT!!!

But...for a daily knifity back up to the classic, I find myself still sticking other smooth backside SAK's like the Batam, Cadet, and my beloved florist/garden knife. I LOVE that thin edge chisel grind sheep foot blade. It cuts like the dickens!

The recruit is a very fine EDC pocket knife.

I have an unfortunate habit of losing knives. I think thats what started it off. I lost a sak I carried for a few years after getting out of the military
I didn't have any great attachment to it, I just needed a knife (if memory serves, it was a blue transparent tinker, 84 mm)
When I lost it I decided I needed a new knife to replace it and Google brought me here.

I've lost my skeletool, before that I lost my buck 301 and the blue tinker
I hate losing knives

Ps and...AND my Fenix 01 light ..blew up on me. Batteries swole up and I couldn't get it out. So I tossed it and when I went to look for a replacement they are out of production and replaced with the 02 which looks a lot thicker

Pssst, hey Rsmith, thats what the keyring on SAK's are for. Thats why I am sooooo much a fan of them, and the lanyard that I can attach to the SAk, and then to part of my clothing that makes loss almost an impossibility. Now in my semi tottering old age, I won't carry any knife that does not have a keyring/lanyard hole. My favorite is a paracord lanyard about 6 inches long, in a loop. Drop SAK in pocket and then shove the knotted end of the lanyard under belt. When knife is needed, grab lanyard and pull SAK out of pocket then pull down to pull knot out from under belt. Can be done very quick and easy. And the lanyard can be looped over wrist if working over water like on a boat or dock.

I lost a peanut once, and it was darn near a traumatic experience. Slid out of a pocket someplace never to be seen by me again.

The other way is to just put the SAK in a belt pouch. I carry my trusty Wenger in a nylon and velcro pouch in back of my right hip. Strong velcro on the flap that takes a deliberate pull to open. It allows me to carry my old war horse without fear of loosing it. I do love the Wenger SI. It and the classic cover all my needs.

I had the same thing happen to me with a Fenix E01. No more available, so I got the replacement the E01.02 or something like that. Even better than my old E01. Three brightness levels, and on low, an even longer run time than the E01, but you can jack it up if needed, to a very bright level. As much as I loved the E01, and am set in my semi Stone Age ways, I have to admit the new Fenix E01.02 is even better. Same size, way more performance at each end of the power range. I think it was all of 12.99 in price, and so far has stood up to a lot of travel and banging around on my keyring.

Good to know J jackknife , my E01 has been 'round the block a few times and I was wondering about it's replacement.

Rsmith_77 Rsmith_77 the Recruit is a wonderful tool for minimal carry. Wenger's Ambassor is comparable to Vic's Recruit but has a file instead of a small blade, I carried one for years. Now discontinued, I've set it aside and reach for one of the following Vic's. The 58mm Rambler, 74mm Ambassdor or the 85mm Evogrip 11, all have the essential for me nail file. :)

Lol I much prefer the second blade to the file. But that is a discussion as old as time.

I also think I would prefer a pair of scissors over the file come to think of it
