I joined the ABS today. I'm a probationary member in the Guild already and want to finish that process in fall of '15. If I can sneak in a trip to Texarkana this fall, I can do my JS judging at the Expo in '16. Got it all planned out :)

Good for you ! Nothing wrong with setting goals for yourself. Do you forge now ? I see you are proficient at stick tangs so you are well on your way .

I may be delusional, but I believe I've got the fit/finish skills on my stick tangs already. I have forged maybe a dozen blades, but I drifted toward stock removal because I have better equipment in that direction. With my current equipment, it is faster and more efficient to grind than to hammer. I have the stuff gathered to build my forge, and have an anvil deal in the works. One thing at a time.

Your not delusional I have seen your work your well on your way. Take your time and find the best anvil you can. That way you will buy once and cry once.

Good for you.
In my 17 years of knife making, my membership in, and affiliation with the good people of the ABS has been the most rewarding facet of my knife making adventure.
The ABS is about the PEOPLE. The knives, and your advancement with those, are secondary.
The close friendships I have acquired since the beginning will still be with me at the end of this life.
Of that, I have no doubts.
