...and bought a SAK. Alot of people really like them so I decided I would try them again. I got a camper economy model. Just got it in the mail today so I havent been able to really test it but it seems pretty good. Im carving a ball in a cage and the little blade is comming in handy getting in the crevices.

I hope this knife works out because I'm going to backpacking through Europe this summer and this might be the only knife I bring.

congrats... the camper is one of my favorite's... i gaurantee you won't be disappointed....

SAK'S rock.. i'm sure you'll end up buying a few more....:)

Orrey45,

When I was a little kid, I remember a friend of the family coming back from the Peace Corp or a mission. He had a been assigned to somewhere in Africa and built an entire house there using nothing but an SAK (he used to show me the saw blade and other components). I now realize that it was not a very practical endeavor, but I remember thinking that I needed a knife that could build a house in a pinch and have had one pretty much ever since...

Must be something in the air..
I have carried a SAK Ranger for a while now, but have really grown to appreciate it (and SAKs in general) more lately.

Had to go grab a Hiker model the other day (on sale locally) - and I'm waiting for the opportunity to grab some more when I can find a good deal ASAP.

Hope you enjoy it!

Congrats, Orrey,

My SAK Rucksack is always with me regardless of what other blades I have.

IF only one knife that I carry daily, that's the one. it's legal, versatile, and I know it will get me though pretty much any survival situation.

I've always carried a knife, but for the last five years or so I have almost always carried a sak. One of the best made, most durable and most useful pocket knives made imo. I like em, and when you decide you need another one :D be sure to look at the alox models, very tough folders for their size.

Just wait till you touch your first alox SAK !

The Farmer is the next logical step for you, they can be had cheaply online and are easily the best SAK ever... :D

Seriously, they've got a great awl, sturdier blade, saw, etc...

I was driving home one night and blew a radiator hose. On closer inspection I realized it was a small split near the hose clamp. I used the only tool I had with me, a SAK, to loosen the hose clamp, trim the hose past the split and reattach it tight enough to get me home 30 miles. SAKS ROCK!

The Sak Camper was my main duty horse through my month stay in the UAE. Living out of a hotel, this thing was put to all kinds of tasks ranging from light food prep, opening up oysters, cutting and slicing (rope and cord) chores. It served me well on the boats there, and didn't get eaten up by the salt water. Interestingly, my Buck diamond back steel didn't fair so well and pitted within hours of use in the ocean environment.

I second the earlier comment about the Alox models though. I bought one recently in Europe and just fell in love with it. The thicker blade just feels that much sturdier and the dimpled alumnum surface feels and looks so much nicer. The Solider or the Farmer th saw) makes a great pocket knife and comps your camper well. Throw your camper in you pack or bag for those emergency - I really need to open this bottle of wine situations...

I don't think you will be disappointed in your decision. I had mine for about a little over 13 years and it's still going strong. Good luck with it and keep it sharp!
