I just bought a Leatherman Squirt P4 on an Internet sale: very high price, 35 Euro, about 40 USD, but cheap here in Italy, where price would be 60 Euro.

Now it is travelling by UPS to my home, and I am considering: it looks very small, is it so tough as Leatherman says, or it is just hype?

It means: I know it is a keyring tool, but really I can use it or it will break if I try to use the knife to cut some stuff, the pliers to bend some small wire, the screwdriver to loosen something?

Your opinion, please.

Thanks a lot.

Not bad for the size, but I have the E4. The E4 has the wire strippers and a finer tipped nose. I used the wire strippers to strip and cut wires to assemble an electric guitar. The cutter, strippers and pliers worked well. I was showing someone how to remove a hard drive from a laptop. They couldn't budge a screw from the hd cover and began turning it the wrong way. I had them stop, took over the screwdriver and it was stripping. I pulled out my E4 and it grabbed the screw head tight and removed it without an issue. The E4 does have a little phillips though. The tools are real, not for hard use, or to replace standard tools, but a squirt can be handy and small to carry.

It can be a very useful little tool, providing you understand its limitations. I have no basis for comparison to any other keychain sized MT's, as the Squirt is the only one I own.

I would say the biggest limitation is to not put too much torque on it - it will twist or bend if you do. That makes it sound like a flimsy or cheap tool - it's not - it is a fairly high quality little tool overall!

The way I think of the pliers is that they are an extension of your forefinger and thumb. If there's something you can't quite get done pinching or grabbing with your hand alone, the P4 will come to your rescue. Very handy in the right situation. The wire cutters work very well - again used within reason!

Understand its limitations and it will serve you well - just don't expect it to be a "heavy-duty toolbox in your pocket". ;)

I agree 100% with the above evaluation. I broke the pliers on mine trying to remove a heavy staple used to hold boxes together. The company replaced it with no questions asked but I learned the hard away what is stated above.

Overall, they are good for what they are.
