I just called Benchmade and told them that they should re-issue the 805 in..

..S30V, plain edge, satin, g10.

i told them the demand for this model would make it fly off the shelves. this was a message i left on a machine, so time will tell what kind of response i'll get. it's a shot in the dark, but who knows, maybe a butterflie's wings will change the weather & get me that "perfect EDC for me" that currently just doesn't exist.

i'm thinking they'd be more likely to use M2 or D2 over s30v (who am i kidding? they probably won't do any), but good effort either way!

amen brother! i personally wouldn't mind a d2 or m2 version, but for some reason (cost?), BM doesn't put out those steels without a black coating on their folders, i could be wrong.

*holds up "bring back the 805" picket sign*

Good luck, but don't hold your breath. Chances are that they will not resurrect a discontinued knife. The best chance would be for a special limited edition version, but I wouldn't hold out much hope. You never know though.

yeah, the glimmer is here, but shining pretty conservatively. it's just such a damn shame that their most handsome blade shape (IMO of course) never got a fair chance. i know that i can still get it in 440c (the black combo edge is out of the question for me), but that's far from my personal preference.

Hell, I'd be 100% pleased if the 805 WOULDN'T have been DC'd in the first place, but since it was, I don't see it coming back.:(.

BTW...The 805 IS my all-time favorite folder!!..It feels soooooooooooooo good and secure in my hand!.:).

FYI, Benchmade has released a special edition of the 705 in S30V/Titanium. It's pretty sweet looking but the one I saw was priced at $500.00! It's part of their new Gold line. On their site it's called a 706.

I saw it at Recon 1, an Army Navy surplus store in Tarzana CA. They have a website, but it doesn't mention any of the limited editions that they have.

The 706 isn't a special edition of the 705. It is a different model in a couple of ways. The newly announced 707 though is much like the 706 in some ways.

BM did make a special run of 805's in M2 for a dealer that fell through. They sold off the ones made themselves at that point.

Does this statement mean that Spyderco does resurrect old dead models?

Yes, a good example is the Calypso Jr. It was discontinued a few years ago and brought back recently for the sprint run in grey FRN, which is now also discontinued, but there will be a new run this summer in the new ZDP super steel.

update:

I NEVER GOT A CALL BACK, despite asking for a response & leaving my number.

however, i just handled a spydie manix for the 1st time yesterday (beyond impressive), so my "ultimate EDC" wishes are pretty much solved. sorry BM.

I called Cold Steel and left a message telling them to get rid of their 420 junk and fire that Lynn Thompson guy. They never returned my call. :grumpy:

;)

well, i recently saw a pic of lynn thompson in tights, demonstrating some knife-fighting moves in a martial arts magazine. how he actually fit into those tights seemed to defy physics. i think he should stay on the merit of that alone :D
