Did I need a mid-large size heavy duty Benchmade?

Nope, just traded or a LNIB Rfit earlier this week.

But there it was, like a faithful old dog at the shelter who's owner no longer wanted it. Looking at me with those big sad eyes, needing a home.

I don't like combo edges. I don't care for coated stainless blades. I'm not fond of tantos.

Yet, here it is, about to be lovingly cleaned and oiled like the first one I ever bought.

Now it's decision time. Do I try to learn to live with it in it's current form? Do I send in with $25 for a new plain edge, satin, drop point blade? Do I pass it on to another Benchmade lover who prefers this style of blade?

Nice, I assume you got it for a good deal? Id send it in for new blade and full service...would be like a new knife minus the wear on the scales...
You could also get scales reanodized or do it for cheap at home and strip them with greased lightning and hit with a couple coats of Aluma hyde. :-)

Yeah, got a good deal on it. I just saw on Benchmade's site that the entire 523 line has been discontinued...

I assume they still have some blades though. Wonder if they share the same blade as the auto versions since those are not discontinued?

I would clean it up and stick it in my pocket. Wouldn't change a thing. And like you, I don't dig tantos and combo edges. But I would just keep it OEM.

Use it like you get a free one if you break it. :) if you somehow manage to break it, sure, pay the $25 for a new blade.
