I know others have spoken about the 'slippery feel' of this hand shaped G10, but it just feels so good in hand. Wouldn't mind hear what others think about their custom ASH-1's. What do you think? Still anxious to compare to the upcoming production models? or content with it just as it is?

PS: A brilliant marketing decision to create pent up demand by getting these customs and SE's out first. I know I'm ordering multiples of the production model when they come out.

My giraffe-bone is .03" wider than my black/red handled one. I can't believe that .03" makes THAT much of a diff, but it does. More hand-filling. Much better. And I liked it before!

SWEET... congrats on a great ASH-1!!!

I scored a couple of the all black & tans and one of the red & black G-Rex.
I think these feel GREAT in the hand... the SE is a bit thin feeling to me, and probably closest to what the production standard handles will be.

What I'm curious about... how do these compare to the pumkin or desert camo (SMOG) handles???

On these, there is little difference in the rise / swell and the valley (for lack of a better word). The pumpkin & desert camo ASH-1s seem almost bubble like.

So... I'm really glad I scored this style.

Looks sweet, now i wanna score a couple too :grumpy: those se's on the exchange are already gone :D

Update the site i want my infi-fix too :p  gogogogo....

Like Chuddy Bear, I can't speak authoritatively without more experience.

Please start a passaround immediately. I'll get in line behind Chuddy Bear.

I think they are one of the best feeling handles ever. At Blade West, Eric (Skunk's son) had to tear the Pumpkin ASH outta my hands.;):D
As I wouldn't use it as a chopper, and I think G-10 lends itself well (not as well as canvas micarta or resiprene c) to wetwork, I think it is just fine.

I'm with you in not envisioning using one for much chopping (unless you were forced to). I have a lot of other 'big boys' for that :D

I've been picking up the custom ASH-1's whenever they get within reach so I can compare them to the ASH-1 SE. Couldn't lay hands on a Punkin ASH-1, but the Desert Camo ASH-1 has the same handle -- it definitely has more relief than my other custom ASH-1s. The Desert Camo fills my medium size hands more fully than the other ASH-1s. Haven't decided yet whether I like the regular profile better than this deeper profile.

One look and you can tell that the Desert Camo handle is thicker and more contoured than the others.

I have had these three ASH1's and now am down to two only for the time being. In my hand I prefer the Blood Ganzaaa G-rex edition. I found that the Fat Blade West Camo was very nice but I prefer a handle that is easy to move around in my hand to different positions for cutting. The Camo is very form fitting and stays in one spot but does not allow you to hold it in more than one way.
The Custom recurve is absolutely gorgeous but once again not as comfortable to me.
If I was going to pick one for serious work it would be the size and shape of the G-Rex. While it is not as grippy as Micarta Its does hold well in my hand. If I could choose between G10 and Micarta for a user I would choose Micarta without a doubt. That being said, I want one in Ironwood Burl. :)

Man the handles on that tan one is ridiculous fat  for a ASH1. I have a CS G-Rex that is feels very comfy in the hand but I still think it is a little on the fat side. The SE ASH1 is about right for me. Not as comfy as the CS shop but prefer the thinner handles because it reduces weight and also gives the knife a more forward balance.

I am guessing that those BladeWest2007 Tan handle ones are either very neutral balance or maybe even handle heavy.

I can tell from the profile shot of that Smog Camo ASH-1 that the G-Rex (posted at top of thread) is definitely thinner....but it is definitely fatter than the standard raptor style handle. I'm happy with the way the G-Rex and the Raptor cut standard handle's feel.

I scored a ASH-1 with the red and blacl G-Rex handle. I always loved the smoothness and G-10 is my favorite handle material in general. At first I found the handle too large but have come to really like the thickness. For my grip any thicker would probably be too much. That tan handle looks cool but would be too large, I think, for my grip.

I have four custom ASH1s, all of which have smooth G-10 handles. Here's my first (BloodBathaGanzaaaa 5B):

As shown above, and now below, its handles are not overly (not used in a negative sense) thick:

Here's my second (BloodBathaGanzaaaa 5E):

Its handles are darn thick, and not overly (again, not used in a negative sense) contoured:

And, here are my third and fourth, a pair of Pumpkin ASH1s:

Here is a spine shot of the one in the foreground, showing the handle contouring:

The Smog Camo G-10 one posted by KellyGlanzer above has handles with more contouring, and are close to those of the Pumpkin ASH1 in the background.

If you want to get an idea of the contouring, in particular the difference in thickness of the area at the handle fasteners and between them, simply treat the handle as a topographic map. More contour lines means more contouring. If you compare my pair of Pumpkin ASH1s in this way, you realize that the one in the background has more contouring.

Nice pics Lunde....So which one of yours feels best in your hand?
All of them!:thumbup: I sure wish that I had four hands.

Seriously, though, the Pumpkin ASH1 in the foreground feels the best in my hand, with the BloodBathaGanzaaaa 5E being second.

Man I wish I had got that one!

Great pics of a great looking knife:thumbup:
