And the TOP perfomer was............ my cheap, lowly OPINEL. SLISH! and it was through it.

Next in order of performance:
154CM BM PE Stryker
SAK OH Trekker
Spyderco VG-10 SE Delica
Boker carbon barlow
Mcusta Take VG-10

ALL ....started.... really good. But the blade geometry hung it up about a half inch in for those which quit after an initial burst of enthusiasm.

This test really emphasises wedging effects. I think I may standardize on using it to describe the effect to people.

What I actually do these days is use the tip of my blade to score the surface of the card with about 10 parallel lines. Then I just break the card on the lines. It is more effective and safer. It works with any blade that is sharp at the point.

If you sharpened your own shredder it would certainly have a place in the Toolshed forum.

Phil

I put mine in a shredder and when I was emptying the shredder bin I noticed something interesting. The shredder had sliced the card lengthwise and the numbers, magnetic panel and signature panel were all intact as thin strips:eek: So I was still socially engineerable!

Make sure you put the card in sideways on the shredder - or just burn the sucker

Scissors. Easy to slice through the characters, and then cut up what's left randomly.

If you want a knife that will beat the Opinel at it, though, try a Douk Douk. No wedgies with the Douk! :D

I'm a little surprised that the OH Trekker didn't fare better, with that thin smooth blade.
