Everyone,
Our immediate family did our gift exchange this morning, and, when everyone else got a package, I got a card with nothing but hints in it. I was curious as to what it was, and I found out tonight. I had already been helping my uncle plan a KMG style grinder, and so I was told that my parents pitched in on it and that it will be living at my house. He will still be using it, but I will have pretty much constant access to it. I will have to buy my own belts, but it is a small price to pay. The more I file, the more i understand that a grinder will not only make it faster, but will help with grind lines and such. I am soooo tired of draw filing for 30 minutes per bevel on a small knife, and more on a larger one.

I just want to add that I never would have gotten this far without you all. This has been the most fun than I have ever had with a project, and has fulfilled my personal need for an artistic outlet. without all the support I have gotten, I would have given up a long time ago. Thanks so much and God bless. Merry Christmas and Bah Humbug!
Steven

That's a great Christmas present.

I look forward to seeing the knives that will be coming in the future.

Take care

Charles

I just found out that someone out there (my younger brother) gets me. Here's what he got for me:

The top billet is a piece of Alabama Damascus that I'm sure he got from a huge knife store in Sevierville, TN. The bottom billet is called Metsala Steel #6, perhaps from the same source.

This, by the way, is the brother I gave the trench knife to, and he says he loves that.

Tony Metsala made that bottom piece. It has to be mosaic . The pattern on both sides is the same. Frank

Congrats Steven!! Look forward to seeing more of your blades now that you'll be a "real" knife maker...LOL!

I don't have pics. I will get them, though. This build isn't happening immediately, but will be happening in the near future.

GIB? I love mine. Easy build and for the price it's around the same as what a NWG or KMG would be minus the work to cut it all out.
Whatever you do, don't forget Cherry City Metals in Salem for all the metal you need. It's an awesome place!

If you do a GIB, I have 9' of 2"x3" angle for a platen. I could share some i also have Unlimited supply of 2"x8" and 2"x9" pyroceram that i got in return for helping a glass guy remodel a bathroom for a lady from his church. Cherry City has 2' and longer pieces of 1-1/2" SW solid for tool and rest arms. Another bonus for the GIB is the seperate tool/rest slot.
