I was wondering if there was any info on this model. Is there a story behind the design? Also why call it a #16? Why not a #1 with a #14 handle? Also I've heard that 440C is now used on some models. Is this one of them? Anyway thanks in advance. Here's a scan.

As I understand it, the model 16-7 special fighter is a model 16
with a model one grind, model one guard and the finger grip handle
which, I believe, is standard on the model 16. Other handle patterns are options.

A few years back, when my nephew joined the army I gave him one of these. He's been very happy with it.

What you have there is the Mod. 16 Special Fighter version. The Std. Mod 16 divers knife has a slightly different top bevel and a single hilt instead of the double as you have.Greg

Nice Picture Bill...thanks for sharing!!!

I thought the same thing when I saw one at a show. I think there's a lot of over lap whin you start putting on options. I think a Stag #5 and a stag #15 are real close except for the sheath.

Both knives are from 1/4 inch stock, however the Mod. 5 is a slightly narrower blade and comes in a 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 inch blade where the Mod. 15 only comes in a 5 1/2 inch length. Greg

Hi, my name is Crunch and I'm a Randallholic. Right now I'm going through a period of hating Randall Made Knives  and not caring about the minutae of what separates some of the models. He says as he takes out his Yellow micarta handled Smith Bowie with the Johnson rough back sheath with smooth snaps and orange stone.
 Sorry, just had to get it out of my system.
I'm just glad that the stag handled #23 that I bought from a friend 18 years ago for $25 (he gloats) has a very stained stainless steel blade that has been sharpened and actually carried and used. Carried in a Johnson roughback with a dark gray single colored stone, I may add.
I dropped a bunch of dough on randalls after 9-11 and I guess this a backlash of sorts
Oh ! Thanks Greg, for your reply. I really am OK even though I sometimes lose sleep over the fact that my 19 year old stag #14 has a
nickle silver hilt and my new stag #15 has a brass hilt !

On the Mod. 15 the Nic. Sil. hilt is an option that can be ordered at extra charge. The standard hilt, the Mod.1 hilt, and the single hilt are all available on that knife in either brass or nic. sil. Greg
