it's kickass. that is all.

Thought I'd kick this up to the top to ask some questions of the Maxpedition owners. The Falcon series seems to meet most of my requirements for an EDC pack. One major question is the y-strap. Just looking at it, it seemed like it could get in the way of opening the pockets. Then I read a review which stated the same thing -- the pack was a pain to open and close. I'd like all pockets to be easily accessible without having to mess around with an external strap. Does the Maxpedition fit the bill, or do the straps get in the way.

Note that I"m not questioning at all whether it's a well-built pack that kicks ass. Just about whether the Y-strap gets in the way of the pockets, or if it's a pain to use in general in any way. Thanks!

I have a Baby Condor and yes, the straps do get in the way. It can get aggravating but I don't mind much. I think adjusting the strap to where is sits closer to the top would help. Then you can just tuck it under something.

indeed, the Y-strap does get in the way. However, I've learned to deal with it.

The convenience of not having my books/gear flopping around in my pack greatly outweights the inconvenience of having to squeeze/click a buckle.

You *could* cut the Y-strap off. But that would suck.

reverse the y straps... take it off the buckles and then redo it so that when it's open, it flaps over the back of the pack. That way, when you unsnap the squeeze buckles, it almost jumps out of the way. After the straps get soft, you're gonna have to flip it out of the way, but they then stay out of the way as opposed to flopping right back in it's original configuration.

edited to add...
you don't have to cut the y strap... you can simply remove them from the ladder buckles.

i stand corrected, it is true you won't have to cut the ystraps.

whoops.

Anybody have some pictures of their maxpedition bags? I've seen the website pics, but they don't show you the bags with any gear inside or anything to compare the size with. I know they list the actual volume of the bag, but that's not so helpful .

Thanks!

Let's see what this looks like

MelancholyMutt - Which bag is that? Is that the Pygmy Falcon? If so, it's a lot bigger than how it appears in the online catalog.

Thanks!

i don't think melancholymutt's pic is of the pygmy...

if it is, than.. wow, this pack must look a lot bigger on me than i expected. i can't ssee my back....

but this pack is actually kind of small. i can fit one organic chem book, two notebooks, a clipboard, and my leather jacket in it, and it's pretty jammed tight with those items.

this is defiantely a daypack and i wouldn't expect it to be used for carrying any more equipment than you would use in a day.

It's their version of the 3 day pack... I forget what they call it... the large Condor I think

i can't tell if you're being sarcastic.

chem books and leather jackets tend to vary in size/volume.

i'll take some detailed pics when i get a chance.

I'm still trying to find a Canadian distributor for Maxpedition. The link of Maxpedition's site to 'Dave's Army Surplus' is dead. I emailed Maxpedition but haven't recieved a reply yet, hopefully they can steer me to something.

I've been burnt way too many times playing customs/duty/handling fee roulette to not try and avoid it if possible. My only other solution is driving across that bridge to the U.S. (I'm in Windsor, right next to Detroit) and that's almost as bad. I keep losing car parts or stuff inside my car whenever I go over...

Anyone have any experience with Dave's Army Surplus ? They're the only Canadian distributor of Maxpedition listed on Maxpedition's website. They have a decent website catalog but no online ordering setup, which I assume means they wish you to email/call them with orders/queries.

After exchanging emails about an order I wish to make I get the impression they're not very interested in dealing with orders through the internet. Very short, uninformative email replies which take 2-3 days to arrive are my primary concern.

Is this just their usual method and they're service and actions are good or am I seeing a trend which may continue as our transactions progress?
