I think I know why this knife was canceled...doesn't lock up tight easily. If you flip it hard it will and is solid.

I really like the looks of it with the exception of the button thingee. I can disengage as if a standard linerlock. I do find the look and size of the knife very appealing. Yep, I like it but I don't think I'll ever use it as the design was intended. That's ok, I like looking at my Bucks too.

I guess I should have asked who else as one and what do they think of it?

I can't believe I'm the only regular to have this knife or have an opinion.:(
Maybe your issue is the reason why? I dunno. Don't have one.

While I've no value add for this thread, I post only to acknowledge your message in a bottle Flatlander and also curious what others think about the knife.

Sorry, I'm no help either. What is the model number? I'm curious to look it up for future knowledge.

The model is 886. My wife has had one for a couple of years, carries it in her purse. She loves it, no problem with it locking up, I just tried it and it's fine. Maybe you should send your in to be checked out.

How about some photo's Gordon. I don't have one soooo I don't even know what a button thingee is????

You push the button and the left side liner will press against the right sigh liner that is locking the blade (same as a standard linerlock). The locking liner is smooth but I can push it with my thumb. Unusual design for sure.

Good way to start my day. Learned something new!

Pretty good looking knife.

Wasn't familiar with that model at all. Found a few on slee-bay for my viewing pleasure:D

Couldn't hurt to ask Buck about making it right if it worries you.

That knife is a real sleeper IMHO. A lot of guys at Buck carried that one around. Upgraded steel, G-10 handles, and a unique locking concept....that just did not catch on. Still a good knife to hang onto.
The idea was that the button thingee made it safer since your finger did not go into the path of the blade while disengaging the liner.
We might be able to do something about yours if you want to send it in. I'm not possitive that we have any parts but it may not need any either.

I carried the Tac Lite for over a year. I liked it so much that I've still got one NIB and still carry one occasionally. Mine all lock up very solidly. The G10 handle material is fantastic. The only thing that I didn't like was that the liner release button doesn't always disengage the lock.

there is also a 885 that is smaller
and i love the blade profile!!!
i agree with joe this knife was missed out by many..
one great knife .. hard to find some times..

Hey!
I got that waaay back when ATS34 was THE primo steel and made in good ol US of A Bucks still taken for granted.
It still is a pretty design, but I still find it hard to understand the need for those holes bored into the sides of the handles.
Was it a Kit Carson design?

My wife has the one with the wood scales, not sure if there is any other difference besides that. It looks nice with the wood, has the holes just like the G-10.

I just got my little wood handled Tac-lite today. This is a sweet little knife. Nice snap on the linerlock.

Plum, did you get your's yet?

My 886 locks up really well, and has since day one.

May I suggest you return yours to Buck for some tweaking/retooling.

It's an interesting knife...a good size, with G10 scales and quality blade steel.
On the other hand, I didn't go for the handle construction - using pins rather than screws - and the pocket clip placement was a bit weird IMO.

Yes I did, and I like it so well, I went back for more. I guess he's out of them because I couldn't find any more listed. I did see one of them on the bay, used and it went for $40+ shipping if I remember right. Ours were alot less than that.

I'm not a fan of the tacticals, but the wood on it made it for me. So far no issues as far as lockup or anything with mine.

I should have bought two at that price. Wasn't sure how I'd like the little guy but Its a nice small package. To be honest, I wish the larger G10 one I have with the button thingee was exactly like this one in regards to the lock/handle design.

"I should have bought two at that price."

Or more! I don't know how many the dealer had though.

I have a tac-lite as well, I don't know really anything about the knife. Personally I love it, I carry it every where and haven't had any problems with it over the last year. I bought it for only $80 but it didn't come with a box.
