I had a really interesting day today!

I started out by going to the orthodontist and getting my braces off- it feels great!

Next I went to my dad's office and learned how to weld and cut. First I drove the forklife over and got the huge, long thing of 1/2" think pipe with a 12" diameter. Plasma cutter didn't work on that, so I learned how to use the Oxy/Acetlyne torch. I had a 12" long piece of pipe then. Next I cut and welded on a back to the pipe, which was only 1/4, so I could cut that with the plasma cutter. I arc- welded that on, then arc welded on the legs, and then cut out a door for the front. I love welding, and I'm not all that bad at it either. In a day or so I'll have pics, where you can see my progession in welding as you spin the forge.

Anyway- by now this thing weighs quite a bit. So I loaded it into the bed of my dad's truck, and we drive home happily. We get home and I decided to take it out. I didn't get a secure enough grip, and it slipped. Fell on my right, big toe. Apparently it has a fracture.

Today's Accomplishments:
-Braces off
-Forge shell built (sloppily- but it'll work)
-Learned to weld and cut
-Broke/fractured my first bone
-Learned an important lesson about making sure that you have a secure hold on heavy objects

Peter,
In the big picture you had a good day. Pity you werent wearing those boots with the steel toe caps but who does that at home! Still, the toe will heal and you can remember the rest of the day as being a great one.
Getting through the first night with a toe like that is the toughest. Good luck buddy!;)

I wore a sandle on one foot for six weeks when I did something like that. My toe swelled up so big I could barely get it in my regular shoes and when I did it hurt so bad I couldn't walk.

Hope you don't swell much. Good luck in your recovery.

J: Hey, thanks man- I actually have my burner done. It's a venturia style with a couple of changes.

Miden: I'm actually upset over how the day went. I loved welding, and the fact that my forge shell is finished has me excited greatly.

I should have the Kaowool and ITC-100 in by Friday night.

STR: thanks- but it's too late about the swelling- it looks like a sausage (and an ugly one at that :D). At this point, I can't forge forge standing- it'll all have to be done sittin, which really has me kind of miffed.

Thanks for the kind words.

Hey peter. Thanks for the heat treating web links. Sorry to hear about your toe man. Hope it gets to healin and feelin better soon. I'll put in a word with the Big Guy upstairs for ya. Thanks again for the links.

Thanks man!
About the links- no problem. These guys here put up with (and still do) my noob question and help me out- I'm just doing my best to carry continue it. I'd reccomend that you read through the rest of links too, as they'll answer many questions.

One other thing I'd reccomend doing is going to the chat at 8:00central tonight.

BTW: Lima Kilo, L.K.- does it stand for anything?

Ok, how do you get in the chat and where. Todays my first day on the forum. Yeah LK are my initials. L for Logan and K for my last name.
