I just got my BK9 in the mail and I love it! It came hair shaving sharp and I am very impressed with it. I removed the scales and it is skeletonized, but it is more substantial than I have heard. I am very pleased. I really like how the cutouts give it a good forward weight without feeling heavy. The knife feels great in hand. Oh, and in my opinion, the knife has great geometry.(Again,VERY SHARP!) I am sure it will be very durable and have very good chopping and cutting performance. There is one problem with the knife, it came bent(the blade) noticeably bent, but you know what, it happens. This is the first time I have seen it happen with the BK9, but every now and then there will be a factory defect. Not a big deal. I have another one in the mail and I can't wait to get it.:)

Hey solidknife....

I am glad you are pleased with your COMBAT BOWIE and I hope it works really well for you.....As you break it in let me know how the two of you are getting along....

Thanks for the business....

All Best....

the worst bend I have ever seen come out of the factory was on a BRK rogue bowie. My buddy bought it and it has, right on, a half inch worth of bend to the blade. That drives me nuts. I know a slight bend won't affect performance, but I can't help but to stare at the defect. :D

My BK9 had about an eighth of an inch curve/bend, getting it replaced.

I also had the same problem with my BK9,it was sent back and replaced.I was not charged return shipping.

How is your new one?

Actually the BK9 is not the one becker that I received with a defect but also my BK11 with an unevenly ground blade.Anyways, both were sent back at the same time and the new ones are nice and straight. The only problem now it there was a linear ding on the spine of the BK9.Not sure if it's the coating or truly a ding under the coating.

I scared my buddy last night with mine, he was cutting a big slab of cow and not having luck with his kitchen knife. Handed him my BK9 and he almost fell into the meat it cut so fast.

first thing he says to me "that knife scares the hell out of me"

The primary grind was uneven or the secondary, sharpened bevel?

It was the primary grind/flat ground blade that was the problem. The first inch or so of the blade at the tip had a grind resembling almost a chisel.

Yeah,I was doing some renos the summer and was amazed at how fast mine chopped almost through a 2x8 piece of lumber.Up until the last inch, chip were flying everywhere with ease.

I have posted to Ethan before that the BK9 is a tactical butcher knife/2010 mountain man knife.

All of its ergo's are perfect for meat cutting, this coming from a former butcher.

I have lots of choppers but the Bk9 (and my Koster Survivor) is one of the only ones that can slice well and chop.

Really hard to find more knife for the money than BK9

I've used both the BK9 and the Magnum Camp for butchering and I prefer the Magnum Camp. BUT the BK9 serves very well as a meat cleaver.

I don't have a Ka Bar Becker BK9, but I do have a couple of Camillus Becker BK9's.

Very well made, very tough knives. Both were shaving sharp out of their boxes.

(In fact, all of my Camillus Beckers arrived shaving sharp.)

_______________

I recently bought my first Ka Bar Beckers - a BK2 Campanion and BK11 Necker.
Well made and nicely finished - except that both had pretty dull edges.

just got a bk-9 too. Nice knife, lighter than i thought it would be. Quite thin too. Still have to test it in the wild.

the secondary grind isnt great, pretty uneven and dull. But thats not a problem, i know how to shapren.

If you haven't had the pleasure of sharpening KaBar's version of 1095, you are in for a pleasant treat. It takes and holds a viciously sharp edge.
