You should completely put some sort of cat treat in there and maneuver it around with the X-Y controls.

Handy piece of equipment to have around the shop, CM Very nice gesture, you can do all kinds of good stuff with that!

Now I need a mill... This should control any chatter when I'm using my carbide bit.

I wouldn't leave that cat alone with that vise. I'm pretty sure he's gonna F it up first chance he gets.

See the empty bowl? The cats have taken the vise hostage and have vowed not to return it alive unless dinner is served on time. It's the details in the background that tell you what's really going on. Effin' cats....

As Patrice said I wouldn't use it for milling. It will be great on the drill press tho. You can remove the soft jaws and make some stepped jaws for it to control the depth and angle of your parts, or shaped jaws for nesting parts and things of odd shapes. As you learn to use it, you'll wonder how or why you ever did without.
Very cool indeed.

I have the exact same XY-table/vice on my drill press. Forget milling (MAYBE a slot in wood or plastic, have done that with some success). Problems:
- one of the screws is inverted. makes for easy mistakes
- dials are inaccurate as can be
- ways are as inaccurate as can be
- not rigid
- lots of play, you have to lock the ways every time

Use it for the intended purpose, to align workpieces under the drill. Other than that, forget it.

Cheers Rody

ps you could contemplate adding two cheap digital calipers to gain some form of accuracy....
