Gordon,

That is truly a fantastic knife. The photo's don't do the red picked bone justice IMHO. "Nice score"

I did a thread on one a few years ago. It was beat to Sh_t, every spot on the brass frame and bolsters were dented, the blade tip was rounded from opening paint cans and the picked bone was fine except the picked bone was filled with calking and paint. I sent it to Joe H for a spa treatment and it came back looking like Gordon's photo...I was amazed it was the same knife.

Thanks guys. I have the damascus version of this knife but have always wanted to have the 425M version. Maybe one day I'll pick off the brown bone version.

Tom, no I don't. The knife was on eBay with a seller named 777MrHaney. I've bought knives over the years from him and he's some sort of wheeler dealer knife guy (Phil). Anyway, he had it as a Buy It Now with a Make an Offer so I made an offer and he took it. If you can afford to buy knives, this is a good time. Lots of folks letting their collections go. So a lot of choices and sometimes at good prices. Anyway, to answer your question, I didn't ask Phil about the history, but a good guess with any 20 year old knife is it is someones collection piece.

Yea, I have a real weak spot when it comes to this particular picked bone pattern. I've said it before, but I really wish Buck would do it again (or the BCCI).

That's a very nice specimen Gordon. Did it come with the box and all? I have two of the "Brown" ones but both have a red cast to them. Not as red as yours but enough to make me wonder if they were in the right box. They aren't really brown like these:

Ok Dave,

Now I just have to see your red/brown knives, photos of them...please:o

Ok, jb. I just took these a few minutes ago. The bottom one has had some pretty nice aftermarket filework done to it. The box says "Brown Bone Folding Hunter" and the number is 110BB. Both of them seem to have a "rosy" cast to the color and not at all like the 500 and 501.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for posting your Brown Bone 110's. "SWEET" I love the color contrast and think the reddish huge really makes the BB pop. That is one of the variations of those that I like the most. Nice score on both of them!

Thanks jb, I used the greenish back ground instead of red so that it wouldn't compromise the bone color. It's pretty accurate in the pictures. The one with the file work came from SMKW's and I bought it in August of last year when they put it on eBay. I have the receipt and it also says Brown Bone so maybe it's just a natural variation of the natural material.

You're right Gordon now is a great time to buy,I believe down the road the blade steel alone in a USA made Buck will go up in price.Blade steel like that isn't cheap and will surely be more expensive in the future.

That is right Dave IMHO,

The natural variation on the brown bone coloration that you don't see on the red bone. The red die overwhelms the bone so completely you don't get to see the mottled color look in bone like you do the brown bone die:thumbup:

Flats here is a knife I picked up a short time ago.
Looks like it is from 1989.
