My bro carried this TAC TOOL off and on while he was in the Corps. I had picked it out for him while he was still at the recruit depot based on a recommendation by a returned national guardsman. The guy said they used them to rip doors off hinges and such. Anyways he wasn't using it anymore so I asked if I could babysit it for awhile, he told me I could have it.

It had no edge left on it. It obviously was not loved or sharpened.

This was purchased in about 2004. I spent some time with a diamond hone, and it's better/ sharper but I don't really have a good understanding of what the edge geometry was originally. How sharp is it supossed to be? how good of a chopper?

Very cool. What did your brother think of it? Looks like it got used quite a bit.

As Best I can remember he said they "opened a lot of beer with it". And it does work for that, tried that last night. I'll have to ask him .

Some tough beer cans there eh ?

Hope I don't run into any of them. I'd prob. get mighty parched ... :D

By the looks of it, I'd say that knife has served it's country well.

Looks like a safe queen to me. Don't you think? Nevermind go near the rest of the coating off that thing.

Makes me happy to see 'um used.....I hope it helped to bring 'em home safe !!!.....

the serrations are pretty sharp, the rest of the blade is ... sharp enough to cut, in a blunt trauma way, and even almost knife like, but seems the geometry is left such that you can baton it through concrete all day and not hurt it.

so, a kind of not aggressive chisel grind with a little secondary for edge.

i'd probably scotch bright some of the infidel off of that and give it a good use on the wood pile or something.

Pics of well used blades like that are waaay cool. Much better than just looking at a poor safe queen that never gets any attention.

That thing is just getting warmed up.
I'd just sharpen it and use it. No need to strip it.

That's great! Purchased in 2004? My history is bad. Is that a KA-BAR or Camilus?

Definitely Camillus. I won't strip it. I may make it my new Search and Rescue Blade, or just keep it handy in the car.

This helps a bunch thanks.
