I just joined.

If you know alot about knives then share your wisdom with all of us. You can also trade and buy on the forums. Welcome and Enjoy! Kevin

First you need your membership card for the National Knifeowners Association. Then you'll need a permit to carry your knives. Just send me forty-five bucks and tell me which state you're in, and I'll send you your cards.

Then you'll be good to go!

Oh, and now I'm serious. You need to go request a FREE video from COLD STEEL and watch it twenty times, then write a 4-page paper on the Lynn Thompson/Mick Strider controversy. After that, you'll be just fine.

Ignore all the remarks so far - cut yourself and bleed on your computer keyboard and you will be blessed.

Welcome Indeed, lurk around, read a lot, a MUST read is FAQ and stickies at top of every forum. Might save you some grief by keeping you from doing some of the NO No's. This may be your start to a life long addiction, careful, it is addictive.

If you stay, you must start a strider sucks thread, a few what's a good knife under $50 threads, maybe even a Cold Steel thread or two.

Then a nice, s30v chips? thread. Also post pics a lot, we don't care what pics........... any pics will do. (see whine and cheese)

Then get you a Kershaw leek, Spyderco Delica... Maybe even a Native from Walmart

Welcome to the madness :D

LOL, You forgot "Is a Sebenza worth it?" or "I want to sharpen my knives, is a sharpmaker any good?"

Forbesanton, since you didn't tell us about your background, here are just some thoughts if you're new to knife buying. Some of it, meaning experience, just comes with time. You know, like when you accidentally cut yourself in front of others, you have to know how to pretend that's what you were intending to do. Sometimes you have to cut yourself two or three more times just to prove you did it on purpose the first time.
As far as practical advice, first, don't rush into buying knives that look good that you don't know much about. Everyone here has their opinions and they're not always the same, but most of us have learned through experience that just because a knife looks good and has heft to it doesn't mean it's good. One of my first knives was a Winchester I saw at Wal*Mart. It had wood inlays in the handle and it was Winchester. Good name, right? Wrong. The knife was horrible.

When contemplating a knife purchase, post a message asking if anyone's had any experience with it. Post first and buy second, not the other way around. Lots of grief can be avoided that way. Also, when someone says a certain knife brand is hideous, don't necessarily take it seriously. Sometimes people don't like the people who run a knife company; other times, they're "steel snobs," preferring to own only knives with premium grade steel blades and looking down on decent midrange knives. Many people here are quite knowledgeable, but they're not terribly objective. And many also just have preferences, or biases. I'm not terribly fond of Spyderco knives overall, but some people buy as many as they can afford.

I don't know if this was the type of advice you were looking for, but if you're new, it can save you some grief. And if you're experienced in knives, then you already know the pitfalls. Just start posting. Most of us like photos, so that's nice, too.

Welcome, Great forum here, Lots of good people. If you are just getting into knives, See your doctor first. It gets quite addictive. I have been eating raman noodles for months just to afford more knives.

You could start by telling us about the pocketknives you own or are interested in. Posting knife pictures are a good way to make friends around here.

Welcome!
