Everyone,
You have been a great help so far and I really appreciate it, but I just can't wrap my mind around one thing. could you help me figure out how the burner on a forge is connected to the tank? all these different fitting have me confused.
thanks
Steven

Steven, What forge are you using? Remember some propane fittings are reverse thread. Email me a pic and I'll see if I can help u out.

Not to take away from this sight but if you Go to iforgeiron.com there's lots of tips and tricks for starting a forge. more designs than u can shake a stick at.

I have the basic idea going. I am just looking for the way to take the propane from the tank to the burner, though a regulator. thanks, though. I will look.

If you have some free time tomorrow from around 11AM until 2PM, you can drop by the shop and check out my forge....a buddy and I will be grinding and can fire it up for your perusal.

Steven,
I got a free blower off of a warrantied WH today. When I get another you're welcome to it. If you want to do a blown forge. If you go Venturi, I have 3 unused Zoeller type burners I built, and you can have one. I'm building a blown forge. It basically goes like this. Reg w/ pressure gauge connects to the propane tank a 10' hose comes from the reg to a needle valve that's connected to an
emergency shut off ball valve. The ball valve feeds a tee just After my gate valve that throttles my blower.

Polish: thanks for the offer, but i am actually south of wilsonville and can't drive myself, so that is not going to happen. thanks for the offer, though.

Brian: yet another e-mail coming

thanks man. that is my favorite thing about the community. almost everyone is willing to help if they can. it is a lot of fun.

You can check out Ellis Custom Knifeworks, they sell all the parts including hose, regulators, valves, etc. I believe you can build the entire assembly from their site including the burners, so you should get some idea from looking at what they sell, even if you don't buy the parts from them.

I kind of figured out that it is just cheaper to buy it from them in a pack :(. it makes the little researcher in me sad.

Steven, in the case of potentially "explosive situations" - better to have the little researcher sad then injured. If you are unsure of how to do it - then buying everything from one dealer, that can perhaps walk you through it and help troubleshoot, is cheap insurance. Second go around you will have a better understanding and can wing it based on what you've learned.
Best
Steve
