Oh boy, do I have the fever. This is my seventh purchase this month. I said I was going to stop at three. 😁 This time I wanted a dedicated SD blade other than my Spyderco MA. I just ordered a LionSteel Emerson One with black aluminum handle. I really need to stop searching these knife internet sites and watching youtube reviews! Anyone else own a Karamit with the Wave feature?

Thanks

I had a Fox Karambit and it was really nice. I ended up not carrying it very much because it was such a specialized blade and not ideal for EDC. So I sold it. But I sort of regret letting it go. And I often contemplate getting another one.

I don't know about that in particular, but I EDC'ed a Spyderco Matriarch 2 with a ring for a long while. Very influenced by the karambit and sabit. Glad to have such a specimen, and I feel like there's some pretty easy things to do to keep the thing locked to your hand. I'd keep the ring on the third, farthest back joint of your pointer finger, because on that plane of motion, lots harder to hit yourself practicing. Just looked up yours, looks pretty good! Nice ring, no protrusions or anything to get static from, always a good option to give someone the ring instead of the blade when you can.

If you ever find how easy it is to sharpen karambits and feel confident in that, I would wrap some meat in plastic and then in a shirt, or get some soft material with a little resistance, and just slice it up, full "gross motor skill" style. Pay attention, try to think, but act, and see how you do, analyze and then do it again. You might find yourself wanting a serrated reverse-S, haha.

I understand it, there was a time when a light dedicated SD folder clipped opposite pocket of my spray is what I needed, along with me regular pocketknife. I try to consolidate more options into one or two things nowadays, but nothing wrong with dedicated pieces, and these are not as hard to sharpen as is purported should you ever go that route of sharpening.

In short: that's cool! :)

I've got a few. An Emerson Combat Filpper, 2 Fox karambits (a Model 479 & a 559TICS) and 2 Spyderco Karahawks (Satin & DLC).

I've also got Spyderco P'kal which is similar to but isn't exactly a karambit because it lacks a fingerhole. I also have the Spyderco Karambit but it's a karambit in name only and is useless as a SD knife.

Was excited when I 1st heard about the LionSteel integrated aluminum frame karambit because I like LionSteel as a brand but got less excited about it after I saw the weight of it. At 4.8 oz it's as heavy as the Emerson Combat which is already too heavy. Compare that w/the Ti/CF Fox 599TICS at only 2.8 oz.

But it's nice that they are using MagnaCut steel w/the LionSteel karambit. Let us know what you think of it after you get it.

BTW, I've purchased 23 knives so far this year but haven't purchased more than 4 in any month. So, you've got me beat in that regard. LOL! ;)

I have an emerson karambit. Very easy to use and fun to spin around. Watch the lock bar if you snap it open with the wave feature all the time the lock will move over on you.

Using a folder for a fighting knife is at best not optimal .

No way to control the forces the knife may be exposed to .

The only lock I trust enough to use this way is the Cold Steel Tri-ad .

But a fixed is always preferred , IMO .

Here are two in rotation now, by fox.

I thought long and hard about the LEONE, but ended up passing (unless I see a super deal somewhere haha). Design didn't speak to me, and the thicc tip really put me off.

I always carry a karambit when I go gardening, pruning, fruit picking. Carving fruits with a karambit (especially fruits with a hard core) is such a breeze.

I was the one who bought your karamit haha. If you would like it back, let me know. I've used it on soft targets only, and the blade still easily cuts paper.

Folder at best not optimal - agreed. Forced to by laws, if I want something over 3". I have been re-thinking how wise needing a big blade is, though, and have been toying with the idea of concealing (legally must conceal where I live) a light blade of 2.9" in an accessible place specifically for self-defense EDC. I love my Police 4, but seeing as though I'm relying on it for EVERYTHING, a dedicated SD carry that is smarter than my old choices (Matriarch 2, Yojumbo waved - though that still makes a great pocketknife) could free me up to try a better dedicated pocket knife - like a Gayle Bradley 2.

Specifically have never carried the Civilian there in that picture, one reason being because I figured that tip would be lost in the first attacker (or wall, or whatever you hit) fast without skilled use, and you'd be in a bad spot if dealing with more than one person, or even one if your first strike isn't perfect enough to disable them enough to get you out of there. I think both Spyderco and Cold Steel improved upon the design, but I have respect for it. Love the shape made tiny for utility work, plus I think the Dodo is more lowkey defensive than most may think.

Love the Tri-Ad, but I also trust back-locks and compression-locks to serve in this duty. I am very lucky to not have to have ever employed anything in self-defense, but from what I've seen... a Spyderco back-lock is pretty trustworthy and I always make sure mine are lint-free, just for cleanliness and safety, right?

Just wanted to upload a cleaner pic I had, too, as the other one was of lesser quality

I've been going back and forth on the Lionsteel L.E.One, but it seems to be larger than I would like. The specs make it seem the same size as the Emerson Super Karambit. I much prefer the size of the Combat Karambit. I had mine converted to a framelock with a skullcrusher by Nathawut. One of my favorite knives that I own.

Probably my next purchase. Maybe a Spyderco Street Beat.

Been rotating between the Endura with Signet ring/Fang and the Spartan Shoto in right front pocket, but I am drooling over the LE One. Please post pics and review. I had a Cold Steel Tiger Claw but gave it away as a gift. May get another, but I found the plate-style wave to be inconsistent on deploying.

Honestly, it's the weight. I don't know what's up with it, buy yeah, you have to commit, with the Black Talon, whereas My Espada XL waves with near no effort from any kind of pants. Feels just a bit dangerous than either a Matriarch 2, or a larger Cold Steel. My Spydercos with aftermarket waves, particularly the WMC "fang" ones, wave very reliably, just about as good as the ones that Spyderco installs themselves.

Just curious on your thoughts since you’ve had the LionSteel Karambit and do you have an pics you would want to share to see how it’s held up?
Thanks!
