I just ordered a new knife. Its also my first one. It is the Kershaw Tremor. Anyone own this? If so, can you please let me know what you think of it?

You probably should have looked that up before you ordered the knife! :p
I don't own one personally but most of the reviews I've read conclude that it's a very good knife especially for the money.

Dont own it but know of it. Nice knife. Seems equiv to the Spyderco Tenacious and I have one of those and you just cant kill it. when I gotta do something ugly I reach for that when possible. Enjoy your knew blade. Got something to keep it sharp?

All I got is a basic kitchen knife sharpener. Should that work okay?

(( unnecessary vulgarity )) Please invest in some kind of decent sharpener if you are going to continue to collect knives. lol

Those will eat up your blade and ruin your knife!
Look into the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It's a great entry level sharpener and a good learning tool.

If you've got decent hand/eye skills, you should be able to get away with a couple of diamond stones. Congrats on your first purchase, I'm sure it'll be the first of many many more. Welcome to the sickness. :D

+1 to everything the others have said. I've never owned the Tremor, but I do have a few of Kershaw's other China-made knives -- the Nerve, Scamp, and Compound -- and all are excellent knives for the money.

I'd also second the recommendation of the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It's very unlikely that this first knife purchase will be your last (;)), so investing in a good sharpener is pretty much mandatory. You can get the Sharpmaker for around $60 shipped from various places. Here are links to a couple of excellent dealers who have it in stock and support BladeForums with Dealer Memberships:

Thanks. How much do those cost?
I third fourth or whatever we are up to now on the nix on the "basic kitchen knife sharpener". Those things are horrible and will wreck your knife. The Spyderco sharpmaker is the way to go. They are relatively inexpensive at approximately $50. You chose well going with Kershaw. Overall good knives and good value. They have outstanding customer service.

And the addiction begins. . . If your anything like me you come to this forum to ask one simple question the you find out how helpful/nice all the people around here are, then you decide to stick around and visit the forum at least 4-5 times a week. Oh and of course you become more and more educated about knives and decide that you HAVE to have more. Haha Ive been here just a few months and in that small amount of time I have bought over 30 new knives and an edge pro apex.
The sharpmaker is $40-$60 depending on where you look.

$50? I'm gonna have to start saving up. I'm kinda low on money but from what you guys are saying it sounds like it's worth the wait

The sharpmaker is a long term investment which will help you keep you tremor (and any other knife you'll pick up) working the way you want it to. It can also be used to sharpen pretty much any blade in your house....scissors, kitchen knives, anything you want.

As for the tremor, there's a reason Kershaw is so popular on here. It's likely a very good starting point. Lastly, our opinions might be useful, but I encourage you to go to stores and handle different knives. See what feels right to you.
