I've owned Sebenza 21s and Regulars for years and got my first 25 a few months ago. I really like the robust feel and updated ergos but the different assembly (slide the blade in after everything else is assembled) allowed me to mews up one of these fancy washers.

During reassembly after cleaning tonight the far side washer wasn't completely lined up an I pinched it when I started to tighten the pivot. It's my fault, but I've never done this to a knife before, let alone one that costs more than $400. I'm just pissed and will only put this knife together as two halves from here on out. I guess I have to contact CRK on Monday and see if I can get a new washer.

Bummer man. I had a similar situation with my Mnandi the other day, but caught it before I tightened it too much.

But now that you mention it, it does seem a little tighter than it used to be, and not in a good way. I'll have to look at that.

How did you pinch the washer ? There is no bushing on the 25 and that is what generally causes the "pinching". The stabilised washer with the tab is the one people always seems to have problems with.

The main pivot pin wasn't all the way seated when I started tightening the screw-side of the pivot. It was caught on the" stabilized" washer and really did a number on it. My washer is now deformed beyond saving. I know is my fault but it was too easy to do.

Sorry this happened to you. I'm sure CRK will fix you up but you'll likely have to send the knife in. Just for clarity, you say you were using the sandwich method on the 25? I know the slide in method works on the 21 but I don't even see how that's possible on the 25.

I was wondering the same thing and making the same guess.

I think the 21 method was attempted for the 25.

This sucks, but yeah, washers are the least expensive piece of the knife...so if you are going to foul something up, it's good that it was the washer.

Also, props for taking ownership of the mistake! No one is perfect, but it seems rare that people freely admit it anymore;)

The previous owner of my 25 did the exact same thing. I polished the washers and removed the burs from the pinched one. Knife still opens smooth as silk but it's off center. I figure I'll send it in once i have a real reason for a spa visit.

Well: I sent two emails almost a month ago and still no answer. Is this normal for CRK?

As weird as it may seem in this modern world, you really have to call them. If you do, you will get help right away and have a pleasant experience talking to an actual human who is very nice.

I had several emails go unanswered, then I called and no problem.

I actually like the fact that CRK has not just become a repository for automated email responses. In my mind, they exist as actual people, with voices, which is cool (and sometimes inconvenient)

I did the same thing ....TWICE..... My fault. Each time I called, sent back the knife, and they replaced the washer and gave a spa treatment to boot. I paid for the shipping there and back. I asked that they just send me a new washer, but was told that they wouldn't do it. They wanted to replace it themselves.

All worked out great, but I am hesitant to take it apart again. I have a bad track record :(
