I was flipping threw the smoky mountain knifeworks catalog and was looking at the united cutlery colt cobra knife and under it it says "laser-cut serrations cut faster and smoother" and then directly under that "Not recommended for cutting rope or fiberous fabric material" ummmmmm ok I thought that was the whole reason behind serrations.

This came up a long while back. If you ask me, it's just a marketing gimmick.

Laser serrations are not sharp on the interior surface. They are only sharpened on the cutting egde like the rest of the blade. So if you were to cut rope, all the rope fibers would get caught up in the grooves and just hang the knife up in the material.

They are totally useless and purely hype.

Eickhorn have laser cut serrations on their rescue knives, that are claimed to work like ordinary serrations for cutting fibre but are sharpened just like a plain edge?
