As must of you already know, I've traded my BA3 and Anaconda Sheath to Brendan. Now I need to find a replacement. Am thinking the SJ would do nicely do to the longer blade. But I'm not convinced.

Satin Jack fans, please help make the plung. :)

What are you looking for an SJ to do? Or better yet... what were you looking for your BA3 to do that it couldn't and what difference will more blade make? If you can answer that, we can probably give you a more accurate assessment.;)

Les, I was going to use the BA3 as a short field knife. But after doing some chopping with it, I desided that a longer blade would be nice. I really like the handle, but the blade looks to short. I pick up the knife and imagine that the blade is longer by at least a couple of inches.

i need a knife between the BA3 and CT in size and since I love the BA3's handle, I thought the SJ would do nicely. Besides, the BA3 doesn't look praportionaly correct to me.

The Knife would be used mainly for camping. Light chopping, making shelters, some digging and general rough use.

Ok... I wondered if that was what you were looking for.

Yes, the added blade length will give you more chopping efficiency. Although, the straight handles are not going to be as efficient choppers as something with the E handle or the Fusion handles. Also, if you can find a Satin Jack in 1/4" that will increase your chopping efficiency simply with the added mass.

I also tend to agree that the BA3 has more handle than blade. There were manufacturing reasons for this (Jerry has posted them in the past). It doesn't effect performance at all and a smaller handle would be too small for me, but in terms of aesthetic and visual balance, I agree, it looks a little "off". With that in mind, I really like the dimensions of the Tanker A. You might too.

I'm waiting for a Busse with between a 5 - 5.5" blade and 3/16" stock. I'm hoping the Tank Buster or one of the new Badger Attacks will fill that niche :) .

The SJ (especially .25") would be a better chopper than the BA3, but I prefer the NO more than the SJ for chopping. Both have a neutral balance, on the index finger with a normal grip. I find it easier to choke back on the E handle grip and have more control and power than with the SJ. The blade length (6") is the same for the SJ and NO, and the overall lengths are essentially the same (SJ = 11.25" & NO = 11.5"). A .25" SJ weighs 11 oz. vs. 17 oz. for the NO. They are both nice knives, and I think it will be interesting to see how the new SJ & NO compare to each other and to the older models. Since you like the BA3 handle, I think you will really like the SJ. :)

wildmanh.....I have a SJ 1/4 inch that has seen a little use and has a leatherman sheath sitting around doing nothing...contact me by email......I might be able to help!!

Viking, hehe....if he isn't interested. (waves hands in air frantically)
I have been toting a Natural Outlaw around. I think it's a better field knife. That's why I carry it. I'm just happen to love the SJ and the Tankers for city carry.
:D :D :D

BTW thanks for the great info guys. I think you all have helped push me over the edge. :D

I suggest that you just cut to the chase and get a Steel Heart. Put a Steel Heart in your hand and you will feel invinsible.:)
