One is the 5" barreled variant of the Phoenix HP22. With CB caps, it is entertaining, quiet, can pop a starling quite regularly at 50 ft, from the Weaver Stance. the other is the EDC pocket 9mm. Together, they weigh no more than a 4" 357, and it's not hard to keep them both out of sight. I"m not buying anything special "for the trail".. If I thought bears were a realistic threat, I'd carry my autoloading rifle. I don't like to make a lot of noise, and I refuse to put myself at risk by having only a .22 (and not a very high grade .22, at that). :-) It is a hellva gun for the money, tho. I got both the 5" and 3" barrels and 2 mags, for $125, private transaction. So I got the gun as cheap as can be expected. I prefer that in my armament. I"ve had to sell some of them on occasion. I like to make money when I do that, not lose it. It's bad enough to lose the gun, without taking a financial hit, too.

can you read? The .22 is not the EDC, that job is handled by a Kahr CM9 9mm pocket auto.

I don't own a gun, don't have my license, here in mass it's a little harder and expensive to get one. I have done training courses and fired weapons. I have my bachelors in criminal justice and a fellow police chief told me not to get my LTC because MA and RI are very liberal and many departments prefer for people not to have a LTC including potential employees.

I find it funny that many people talk about weapon calipers who are anti gun and don't really know what they are talking about. I understand a lot of you guys carry .22s for small game hunting and because the weapons and ammunition are very cheap. From my training courses I actually learned that I was more accurate an comfortable with the Glock 40 than I was with the .22 which I really expected to get less accurate and comfortable as I went up in caliber. Obviously the 40 caliber is much more deadly but I think when you're going out into the wilderness you think about a few things: what you can use the item you are bringing for, how versatile is the item, whether it's a fire starter or a firearm does it add to your safety, is it cumbersome or uncomfortable to carry.

I really like the m6 scout, haven't ever used one but it seems like a very nice weapon and lightweight for taking out into "the trail". My personal opinion is nobody can tell you what "safe" is. Their definition or opinion is not the only one. If someone feels safer carrying a high caliber rifle with them then they should be able to. If you feel comfortable carrying your firearms and they also make you feel safer then nobody should tell you that you can't. Why I say this is because I was just wondering, when you run into other campers/hikers/etc. do you get a judgemental feeling or look from them because of your weapons? And how do you feel about that? Up in New Hampshire/Maine/Vermont I always carry my knife with me for multiple reasons and it's not big or bulky by any means but I always seem to catch an eye when I walk by the guy who isn't carrying one. I've always wondered how it is to be carrying and run into other people.

You said that you prefer "cheap" in your armament (as evidenced by the HP22) and that the "EDC pocket 9mm" was what you were carrying. Could have been a Jennings for all I knew.

That left me to conclude that price was the most important thing to you in choosing a weapon.

And, yes, I read very well, thank you. I can't read minds, however.

yeah, you ASSUMED a lot that you shouldn't have. Jennings doesn't make any 9mm that's pocketable. now, other hikers never see my guns. I'd never consider any sort of single shot, much less one as hopelessly silly as the M6. Just the trigger "grasp" (can't call it a "pull") is enough to make any real gun pro fall out laughing. The 410 makes way too much noise, is way too heavy, bulky and expensive, ammo wise, for what it can do. with a short, unchoked barrel, it won't reliably bring a bird out of a tree at a mere 20 yds, using 3" shells. I aint kidding. If i couldnt hit it at twice that range, using an iron sighted .22 rifle, I'd just eat the gun and be done with it all. 3x that range if I can brace the 22 on something. Since you can't read minds, how about you just stop "thinking" that you know what I am willing to spend on protection guns?

Wow,I finally found someone to put on my ignore list. Thanks bonee! Nice attitude:thumbdn:

Blah, I camp and hike all the time and never carry a gun. Never had a single problem, and neither have my gunless friends. Though, I have only experienced 28 years of life and I live in a quiet town in the Appalachian Mountains.
I will eventually EDC or at least hike/camp with a gun, I just hope I get one before I need one, heh...

Deliverance was filmed around here, but that type of thing only happens to tourists, not locals. ;)

We will all relax around here or this thread will go where the mods can discuss it and no one else will see it to be insulted by bad attitudes. Discuss the topic, please, not each other.

I carry 2 knives when Im camping . sometimes a stick too :)
I havent carried a gun since before I got married , 20 year ago .
I do carry a compound bow at times tho , its a bit lighter than I used to use before I hurt my back , but it still gets smaller game no worries .

Mastalerz I have a M6 and really do enjoy it. I've run everal test ammunition weights through it just ta see what it likes and doesn't like. I don't hike anymore due ta being disabled and this has changed my life greatly, but as my friend would say - Ya play the cards ya dealt!! I agree with ya on many points, as of now all I have is the M6 and we hit hard times so my other guns took a hit. I wish one day ta be able ta replace them, but I know it ain't gonna happen. I carry my CK8H and feel safe with this knife, but being 60 and disabled, well I don't know what's coming around that next corner.
I wish ya could find an M6 for I think ya'd like it, I love mine and so does my Cousin. He's a big knife guy and I've got more knives than him but he can sharpen them better than I can. I'm learning and since being here on BF I've learned a lot about knives and how ta sharpen them.
