I know about the charts, but this Case tang stamp doesn't seem to fit.

I bought it in a hardware store a year ago or less, so it should be pretty new, but the .x/x. arrangement looks like 2000-2010, but the script looks like 2010-, but the "S" is round instead of jagged, unlike both decades. I'm guessing it's this decade (2014) and they've changed the "S" mid-stream.
Maybe I'm missing a detail that sharper eyes would catch.

I seem to recall seeing posts lately, that the difference in the rounded vs. 'jagged' script for the 'S' is related to steel type. One is for CV, the other for stainless (I forget which is which, though I think the rounded 'S' is for CV blades). Otherwise, the dots/Xs patterning should be conclusive for 2000-2009 time frame (2004 specifically).

(and it looks like Rick^ sees it the same way too...)

Looks like a 2004 tang stamp to me. I thought the rounded S was on CV blades, and the sharp S was on SS? I don't think I have anything from that era laying around for me to check, though.

*Edit - looks like everyone else answered the question while I was rummaging in the knife drawer looking for CV blade from the 2000-2009 period to compare it to.

I just remembered I had two Case Sod Busters (full-size '38 patterns) in each of CV and stainless, both from the 2000-2009 time frame and consistent with the dots & Xs patterning for that decade. Confirmed, the CV version (2006) has the 'rounded' S in 'CASE', and the stainless version (2009) has the 'jagged' S (or 'lightning' S, as it's often known).

Thanks, guys. Nice to know I'm just under-informed, rather then blind or crazy. And a little dyslexic. 2004.
