I have decided i would like to get a leatherman i can not decide which is better the charge tti or the wave+, i know the charge will have a better blade but this is not a factor as i will be getting custom blades made for it my only question is do you think besides the knife steel does the charge tti have any advantages over the wave+????

It looks like the charge tti has more of a sturdy construction but i know nothing about multi tool construction.

please some one school me!!

I have a handful of aircraft mechanic friends that swear by the wave. I like the supertool for me personally

I know some aircraft mechanics that carry the wave at work. I carry a rebar or a supertool 300 depending on my mood.

For me, the rounded handles of the Charge make a huge difference in comfort when using the pliers :)

Are the Wave handles different? I thought the main difference was the materials used(?)

I have a Charge Tti and kind of want to sell it and get the Wave+ with the replaceable wire cutters... kind of.

I have a Charge TTi, a Rebar and a Surge. The Surge is my favorite.
If I could go back and do it again, I would probably
would get a Wave instead of the Charge TTi.

I like the Rebar and Wave, myself. I own a Wave but would consider the Rebar as a replacement.

If I was planning to carry nothing but a multi-tool, a Leatherman Wave would be my first choice. However, for me, an MT is secondary to a folding knife or fixed blade so, my Wave does not see much use.

So, what do I reach for when I want an MT? Gerber. A modified Gerber MP-400 or 600 to be exact. Crazy, right?

Here's why. Even though the Wave has better steel, QC, and customer service, the Gerber is easier for me to use from an ergonomics standpoint. Especially when I'm cold, wet, or tired. Plus, not only does it weigh less than the Wave, it cost less, too. I can get two, maybe three MP-400s for the cost of one Leatherman Wave.

(i live in england and we have strict laws on carrying knives so i will be carying only a multi tool for edc even tho the charge tti & wave+ are illegal to carry in public since the blades lock and are longer then 3inches, i dont think it will be a problem as it is upto the police officers discretion so as long as you speak to the police like normal person and your not using the blade in a threatening manner the police in this country are very willing to work with you, provided you can give a sensible reason why your carrying the item)

There is a bladeless Rebar, I believe.

Is there a reason you're not considering the Charge+ aluminum version? It has a 154CM blade and the pliers aren't wonky like on the TTi.

Since you're upgrading the blade anyway, I'd just get the Wave+. Both it and the TTi have very good hand feel, better than Charge+ or Rebar. I think almost everybody who has had several models eventually says if they were doing it all over, they'd get a Wave or Surge.

Note: I really love multitools. Leatherman and Victorinox are truly fantastic. For Leatherman, I have Wave, Charge+, Rebar, Juice, Skeletool CX, and several keychain models.

You know little about multi tools but are going to the expense of having a custom blade made for one?

Let me guess... just because I want to carry a knife would not be considered a "sensible" reason, right?
I assume that self-defense would not be considered an acceptable reason either. I wonder what is acceptable by police standards.

Tell me, is a locking blade approved by law enforcement if it is under 3 inches in length? If so, why don't you just take a file to the blade on a Wave so that it becomes 2 7/8 inches?

Personally, I have a Charge TTi, and my friend has the Wave. Both are nice, and I wouldn't feel underserved by either. However, if you use the pliers a lot, the knife's thumbhole can pinch your hand if you're not careful.

If you need a one hand opening knife on your MT, they are both good options. If you don't mind a slow to deploy knife on your multi tool, I might suggest the Rebar or even the Vic Spirit. You might find them a little more comfortable when using the pliers.

My preference is for the Juice plus a dedicated pocket knife. If I want a saw + pliers, I grab the Vic Spirit. If I don't need large pliers and only need the tools in a pinch, I go for my Squirt (always on my keyring anyway) and Vic OHT.
