Hey guys--
I deleted my entire post.
Feel a little stupid posting strong opinions just yet.
I'll just say, this is my first post and thanks for having such a great place to learn about knives.

In the last few years, I've gotten myself a few really nice knives.

Reeve Seb Classic and Mnandi.
Strider SNG double gunner green.
Spyderco Para 2.

If I had to run out the door of my pleasant suburban home, past the white picket fence into some world where I would have to have a GREAT KNIFE to protect myself and my family... I'd grab... them all!

OK, if I had to choose today... I really like the Para 2. It's just so wicked. It's SO DAMN wicked sharp and versatile.

I obviously love CR. I do not think I would buy another Strider... but I am blown away by the whole of that SNG in its own way... but maybe it isn't a tool for the civilized world? Just so stout and not really that sharp. But who can argue with the perfect balance and amazingly light weight for what it is? And design? Amazing...

OK... just saying hello guys. Lots to learn. Thanks for this great forum.

Welcome aboard mostel! You'll find a LOT of good information on this site, along with a LOT of good people. The Para 2 gets a bunch of good reviews, and I guess you know why.:D

Welcome to Blade Forums Mostel! There's a few here who could learn from your philosophy of listening more and posting less. You'll find a lot of knowledgeable folk here, and a lot of opinions too! :D

By the way, Great taste in knives!

Welcome to the forums!

I managed to read your post before you edited it, and I will amend my own post if you wish to avoid references to a possible "strong opinion", but I'd like to encourage you to give your Sebenza a couple of sharpenings. I've noticed on my own Seb that the edge holding was a little less than I expected when I first got it, but after re-profiling it seems to keep an edge better than my S30V Spydercos.

Nothing wrong with posting strong opinions, you did so in a level headed manner. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and we all have different experiences with knives we like and knives we love. Shame you felt the need to edit, but what is done is done.

Well said. :)

Looking forward to posting more and learning more. regarding the edit, I just thought it might not be the best way to make my very first impression. But don't worry... I'll get to those opinions. I gots lots of 'em! :)

Welcome aboard mostel. This is a wonderful place to learn and share knowledge.
It sounds like you already have a good idea what quality knives are about.
Have fun here!!

I too have a Strider that was butter knife dull.

Took it to a blade master and he put an edge on it that is like a razor,AND will keep that edge w/o rolling.

Sad that a knife costing that much was THAT dull.

The only tool I ever get that needs work are dull knives ?,I dont buy hammers that need regrinding !.

Welcome! This is a great community, and, despite a lot of the gripes, I have to say that the disagreements are far more civil than on many forums. I think that might be because most of the members are very intelligent and mature, as opposed to the predominance of 15 year old keyboard heros on some of my other forums. I have been consistently impressed by the intelligence, generosity, and general good nature of the members here. The tradition of a 1000 post giveaway, members have donated sheaths, materials, money to things that give them no personal benefit, well, let me just say that you've found a good home.

That's really a bummer that the Strider was so dull. How is it to sharpen, and what do you use to do your sharpening? I finally managed to get to the point where I don't suck at sharpening, but I'm hardly to the level that some of these guys are. Richard J always impresses, and knifenut1013 really helped me out.

I have NEVER sharpened my own knife. That's why I am humble here sirs! I really need this sort of info and how you take care of good knives. Cuz I too believe that the Strider can be easily rescued from its dull status to wicked glory and hold it very well. That's a damn nice knife. I have faith for it. I look forward to the day I can say, 'Oh, here's how you sharpen a knife properly'.
