A while ago I plased a post in the Knives For Sale/Trade Individual fourm trying to thin out my collection. The knives that I listed were mint factory (club knives)mainly
from the 80's. I received very few responses.
I know by reading the forums that Tactical knives seem to be the hottest trend right now,but doesn't anyone collect non tactical factory knives anymore?
I would be very interested in finding out what besides Tactical knives fellow fourmnites collect. Also do you collect by brand, knife style or what have you?
Thanks!

I saw your forsale post. I will guess that in general on this forum you will find people that are more likey to collect knives that are of a more modern design with newer steels.

It seems to me that club knives are collected for collecting sake rather than for their excellence in design or materials.

I also saw your post and did not see anything that interested me.I also collect some of the same type of things you do[Remington Bullet, other Limited Edition Cases,Doctor patterns of all kinds including customs]
I also have a very few tactical folders but collect Autos both Custom and Production.I am getting away from all of the "Tacticals"

I doubt that the reason that you did not sell your knives is that they were not tactical knives. I think that it more likely the fact that people did not see anything that interested them.

I have neither the patience nor the disposable income to actually collect knives, so I don't/can't appreciate the mindset of collectors.

As I browse these forums, I sense that most here probably have more knives than they need and are most interested in the latest knife steel, knife lock design or blade-opening design.

I think most who inhabit these forums are 'gatherers' rather than 'collectors'.

We all have a drawer full of old knives and few consider them a collection.

I also don't collect tacticals, mine are mainly utility/daily use knives.

I also feel that for a lot of the market of that type of knife it is some of older collectors that do not necessarily have or want computer access. They (probably most knife collectors) usually prefer to handle and inspect in person before laying down their money, even if it is someone they know and have dealt with. The Haggle is a big thing to a lot of guys.

Take care.

I currently am collecting small custom fixed blades with exotic handle materials. I used to collect tactical type knives, but now I am trading them when I see a knife I want come up on the for sale forum. There never seems to be much interest in the knives that I am looking for, because I am pretty lazy about checking the forums, and sometimes I will find a knife I want that has been up for sale for over a week, most of the tactical models are gone in a few hours.

Maybe there's so much action on tactical knives because the folks that buy them don't really collect them? It seems like they buy a knife because it's got some new lock or a different steel, but when you come right down to it they all look pretty much the same. So they get bored and want to trade for the next one. Funny how many are sold NIB.

Les Robertson once said that only 2% of knife buyers really buy knives to keep them for a collection. Guess what the other 98% is doing?
