Hey guys,

The other day, i had an experince (very bad one) in which I learned just how important an EDC really is...

A good friend of mine, his date for the night, my girlfriend, and I were driving on a back dirt road after dark in a minivan when we hit a pothole and than lost controll in loose gravel and ended up fliping the van on it's side (it almost rolled onto the roof) in the middle of nowhere. The women were both on the passenger side which was the side the van landed on. The van smelled strongly of gas, my seatbelt was stuck, and my girlfriend was starting to panic.

Now for the kicker.
I grabbed for a small folder i usually keep in my pocket- but it wasn't there, it was sitting beside my sharpener waiting for me to get home. I was able (with some forceing) undo my belt and help my g/f out of the van, but I felt so damn stupied for now having my knife- it could have saved lives if the accident was any worse.

Thank God no one was hurt, but I felt horriable for not having a knife.
BTW- im ordering a delica4 wave this week- not having a knife's not happining again.

Good to hearf that all is ok.
Anyone can forget thir folder.
To prevent problems in the future, carry 6 or 7.
Thenwhen you leave one at home.......:D

I often worry about stuff like this also. My fear is the one knife I do have on me will get tossed in the tumble and won't be there when I need it. I've since decided a minimum of 3 knives EDC'd should solve that issue. Glad to hear noone was hurt.

I also usually keep 3 knives. I am constantly leaving one in a pair of pants or on my desk. If I normally have 3 it means I will always have 2 even if I forget one.

I keep one clipped inside waistband, one in right front pocket and another small one as a money clip. Plus I have a leatherman micra that has another blade. This way I should always have a blade with me.

Even when I am around the house and wearing comfortable shorts or swimming I have a knife clipped IWB.

I have friends that call me anal, but if they need to cut something, no matter where we are, they know to come ask me and I'll have something.

Glad to hear your not hurt. Everyone forgets their knife every now and then, well not my, lol. But you already know that. Do what i do, have two knives for every pair of pants you own, and leave them in there, knife problem solved.

That's the kind of story I like to relate to people when the berate me for being a knife weilding loon. I normally just get "yea, how often does that kinda thing happen".

Ya can't edjumacate everybody.

tell this story to everyone who gives you a hard time for your knives- 'cept tell 'em some one died cause i couldn't get off their seat belt:rolleyes:

There is a small SAK on my key chain, which would have been in the ignition.

Glad to hear you are all OK. Some seatbelts have device which tightens the belt at collision.

I usually carry at least two knives...one can be pulled with the right hand and the other pulled with the left hand (should circumstances warrant).

Glad to hear everyone is ok. Lesson for today class, Bad things happen when we leave our knives at home, always carry a knife.

I keep a one hander and a Lman Wave on me as edc, plus I have a BOB in my truck with a golok, sak, and another Wave, and a folding utility in the toolbox.

I carry a Mini Manix IWB, a Dragonfly in my watch pocket and a Delica in a kydex ankle holster.

I have a Spyderco Rescue either in the glove box or the "ashtray" in all of our cars for just this scenario or if I would happen upon an accident where I could help.
