I wen´t around the house and counted how many knives there really was in the house. And if I don´t count all my SAKs (about 25), all my multitools (about 6), all my other knives like Benchmade, Gerber etc (about 20) I found 52 knives in the house. These were kitchen-knives, bread-knifes, ordenary eating-knives, butter-knives and such.

So me, my wife and my two children "EDC" over 50 knives. And we couldn´t do without them. So how can people be scared of a small folder when we all use bigger knives daily? And some of my kitchen-knives are really big and scary. My BM 710 D2 looks like a little toy next to my 10 inch (razor sharp) steak knife. And these knives is used by my children at daily basis!!!

Isn´t it ironic?

Don't think I'd call it EDCing, as it would be quite difficult to try and carry 50+ knives on your person, but that sounds about right. Not counting the knives I rotate in my carry, both fixed and folding, I have about 40 or so. Most of them are steak knives, butter knives, and a couple other miscellaneous kitchen knives. Gotta have extras when guests come over.

Just keep teaching them proper use

IMO, People are more afraid of knives they believe to be unnecessary, as apposed to knives that they relate to as being part of life. Which in reality, a lot of my knives are completely unnecessary and some what intimidating. Having said that, I've never had a problem with sheeple. I only use the knife when it is needed and not for any other reason. Of course, I am in Texas and I assume there is more leeway around these parts.

I think it's great that your kids are around blades. I'm only 17 but I've carried various blades for around 8 years. They'll be used to them.

well i am thirteen i had my first real quality knife when i was about 10 or 9 a case slipjoint great knife now i am into knives that open fast haha

Those are more like EDU (every day use) knives.

My family is well schooled and comfortable with extremely sharp knives, 'cause that's how I keep 'em.

My 12 year old was babysitting the other day and was fixing lunch for the kids. She came home and said "Dad, I couldn't believe how dull their knives were, they were almost useless".

Comfort and familiarty go a long ways toward acceptance.

Unfortunately many folks identify the object (knife) as being the problem rather than correctly idenifying the irresponsible actions of a very few people as the real issue at hand.

They tend to forget we all use knives of some description as everyday tools.

Responsible use of knives in public can go a long way toward alleviating unrational fears.

About your 10 inch steak knife, do you actually eat your steak with it? like 10 inch knife and fork? or is it more for preparing the steak? As I've never heard of a knife just for steak THAT big. I''m probably interpreting it wrong?

Of course it´s for cutting up the steak, not have it at the dinnertable. I´ll eat with a normal fork and knife. And my kids can only use the knives in the house, cutting bread and such, they don´t leave for school with a 10-inch folder in their bag.

yep

I've never heard it been called a steak knife.

Also I never said that your kids take it to highschool or have it in their bag.
