I completed a nice tan trio, seems like only yesterday I was saying to myself, "Man, I should really get a FBM, but they are soo expensive......"
I am glad the addiction made the process painless.....
Heres a couple of pics of tan trio:
I was supposed to recieve my FBM last week, but mail is slow here so last weekend I decided to finish the blade portion of my SASH1 project.
I originally bought a Coyote/Tan SASH1 from the BCS back in late March, and decided that I like my blades to let their skin show.
I stripped the blade, and spent about 10 hours (I know, I was really bored last weekend, and it rained nonstop) hand sanding the blade. I used a really thick leather legal-pad sized notebook for a backing and tried my best to give her a full convex. I didnt expect so many INFI dimples underneath the coating, but what was interesting was that the blade almost had a sabre grind to it. I thought the SASH was flat ground like the CGASH1.
I am pretty satisfied with the results on the blade so far. I know I have much more time to put into this baby before I consider it finished. I did sand the micarta a bit, to remove the somewhat harsh edges (girlie hands
). I have yet to attempt removing the handle slabs, and even more daunting, re-attachment....
I got the FBM Monday, and while I thought my arms were going to fall off from all that sanding, I had to put a convex, shiny edge on the girl. It didnt take as long as I had thought it would, I have never sharpened such a large blade before.
And then finally today, I had the day off, FBM in hand, and sun shining. I took a little trip to a spot about 5 minutes away by foot from my back yard that is ripe with fallen logs and a couple of stumps too.......mmmmm....
There I proceeded to finally show the FBM I got Monday a little love and affection.........
Heres the catch, I left my memory card in the laptop before I left......... Ill head out this weekend and get some pics in action. Until then heres some blade love........
Thanks for looking guys!!!!
