I like FRCP

I really like FRCP and the weight savings it gives. At first I was put off because it looked cheap, but that was just my preconceived notions. I love holding my Manix 2 LW and dig how the weight favors the blade and not the handle.....like my chefs knives.

I know what you mean, I've owned 2 manix LW's and while I don't like the size much I loved the FRCP. I was worried at first, I'm not a huge fan of FRN, I guess it feels thin to me, but FRCP feels quite a bit more substantial in hand. I would like to see some more models in it, maybe the next generation of LW Native's or a salt series knife.

I agree with the Native and Salt.....Translucent yellow Tasman SE would be nice.

Odd, I'm just the opposite. Perhaps it's just the result of past experiences with other plastics, but to me, hard plastics like FRCP feel like they would crack if squeezed hard enough, sat on, stepped on, or run over with a car while softer ones like FRN will flex a little and bounce right back.

When I squeeze my Pacific Salt scales while the blade is extended, it flexes and feels like my Manix 2 LW.

And Sal said this in another thread comparing FRN to FRCP

Hi Powernoodle,

The CP is new, and offers more of what we want in a knife. It's tougher, stronger, has more color capability and is not significantly more expensive.

In fact the strength was surprising when we broke the light weight Manix. I have a black one in my pocket right now. We'll use the same material for the light weight Native 5.

I like both FRN and FRCP. What the Deacon is saying is regarding perceived "feel" from past experience with polymers which I share the same sentiment. I'm sure he knows what Sal said about FRCP and it being stronger. I still do prefer the feel of FRN and it is plenty strong but I'm a fan of polymers as a whole and I know what you mean about the flex on linerless FRN's but my Manix lwt seems sturdier when squeezed. I'm very used to the FRN texture though since Spyderco's had it for decades, and it's not lacking in strength even though the next big thing may be FRCP, it's served me very well. Very excited for the lightweight N5, I think there's room for both plastics going forward.

Correction, that came out wrong, when I squeeze my lwt Manix it feels sturdier more brittle compared to my Pac salt.

I like FRCP but I don't know if I love it. When I was looking for a Manix Lightweight, I know someone said that theirs had a chip in it.

My LW manix has me hooked on plastic spydercos so much that I'm serious about buying models now that I had on the bottom of the list for a while
