I like to handle before purchase

Hey,
I am still new to the quality knife buying world and have started really looking into a good fixed blade. I am leaning towards a benchmade nimravus but I also want to look at maybe a Swamprat RMD or rodent 7 for more heavy duty use. However, due to the high demand of swamprats I do not know where I can go to handle one in real life before ordering one online. I also cannot find weight specs which would help me find something similar to handle. I know a place close by that has a lot of ESEE which seem similar, but I would love to handle a Swamprat before deciding on making a purchase. I have rather small hands and do not love heavy knives if they are not well balanced so being able to handle a knife first is a major selling point for me.

All advice and suggestions are welcome,

Alacrity

P.S. I live in NC, near Ft Bragg if that helps.

You won't find Swamp Rats in any stores except perhaps a pawn shop if you get really, really lucky (they're only sold online). Specs on them can be found in the specs thread stickied near be top of the forum here. HTH.

Next hands-on type opportunity is likely Knob Creek in the Louisville, KY / Ft. Knox area in October. Easy to find more info by searching knob creek machine gun shoot. Busse and Kin will have tables of knives set up that can be held before purchasing.

I know it's like 9 hours of driving, but if opportunity allows...it's one option for you.

We will try to keep this thread at the top. There are a few guys in your neck of the woods that likely have the knives you are looking for. Give them time and I am sure that one of them will be willing to help you out.

KnifeHunter is down in SC...worth contacting him to see what's what.

He's easy to find... Put a dot com after his forum name.

Hey thanks for all the help! I can try calling pawn shops but I may just give in and get one. People rave about them as hard use knives and I haven't been steered wrong by this forum yet.

Sometimes you just have to make a leap of faith in a purchase. I have "average sized" hands, and the RMD (the only SW I currently own) handles just fine. You can always re-sell that SW knife if it does not suit you...There will be plenty of takers...Cheers.

What tuica said. You can catch and release an RMD in a hot minute...........IF it doesn't suit you.
