So I lost my CRKT Tao pen today.

I carried that thing everyday since the day it was released several years ago, from Washington DC Capital Building to the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and I lost it helping my buddy move to his new apartment. It's just icing on the cake on a shitty day. He didn't even have food, drinks, or tape so I spent $80 to buy all that shit, then him and his wife were pretty much gone the entire time we packed his stuff and loaded it onto his parents trailer. It was 2 of his wife's friends, me, his parents, and his brother to pretty much packed and moved all of his stuff, and on top of that, his wife is pissed at me because I cut into the back of a desk I was moving to make a hand hole to carry it. Plus it rained, so we all got drenched moving his stuff.

Okay, Rant off.

Now, I'm looking for a new hard body pen.The longer the better :D It has to have a very tight pocket clip, and either a twist body or a screw cap, and if the cap does come off, it has to be able to go on the back of the pen, so no embassy pen. It also must have the fisher space cartridge.

I was thinking of surefire or hinderer investigator pen, but i'm not sure how tight the pocket clip is. I don't want another pen just to slip out of my pocket. Limit is about $100

Thanks everybody!!

I really like Benchmade's pens.

I haven't had any problem with the clips on my two BM pens. The cap doesn't screw off though.....but does pop onto the other end of the pen rather hard and stays on quite well.

If I ever loose (God forbit) my Tao... I'd go for another one

Other than that there is a lot of nice hard use pens...

- Surefire
- County Comm
- UZI
- Mil Tac
- S&W

Or you can look at Hinderer pens also...

I felt your pain... ONCE. Arrived at friends home ready to work to help them move, they were still in bed..had packed nothing...NOTHING.

Should have left but young (23) and DUMB. Has not happened in the 49 years since but still aggravating to recall.

Sorry about the CRKT..I'd have to buy another if lost mine.

It was very nice of you to help someone move. I think you should buy whatever pen you want that will meet your needs. Good luck and I hope you don't lose your next one.

A good deed never goes unpunished. I helped a former colleague move and his wife yelled and screamed at us the whole morning. Finally, I said to him (in front of her), you know what, I didn't come over here to help you and just be yelled at all day. I said good luck, walked out and never talked to him again. (which isn't as add as it sounds, he was not a close friend and he was moving several hours away). In my own defense, I did help him for several hours whereas none of his "buddies" in the office bothered to show up.

I was thinking of trying something new. I do have a black CRKT Tao pen I've been carrying (I bought 2 when they first came out. The black one has been sitting in its box) in the mean time before I get something different :D , but if that something different doesn't work out, I'll definitely go back to my CRKT Tao.

the benchmade pens are plagued with loose fitting caps (it is covered by the benchmade warranty though)...
the cap is seated via oring within the cap and will develop wobble over time or hell even new out of box.

the hindererer investigator is a tiny pen that my wife loves lol... i was shocked at the size upon purchasing one myself.

ive handled many a pens and if you dont want to spend monies on a hinderer extreme duty
the best one ive come across is the schrade fountain/ball combo for the money if you plan to use it as a discrete kubaton. it isnt compatible with a fisher cartridge however. for a little more i would recommend the good ol tuff writer, miltac gen 1 countycomm embassy but all have caps that do not nest on the tail. the surefire ewp-01 which looks promising and meets your criteria but i personally have not handled one myself.

So I ordered an Embassy pen b/c of the rave reviews I've read and I'm actually disappointed in it. It's a lot lighter than I thought it would be and shorter. I feel like the material could have more density to it, and its rather plain... I love simple elegance like that maxmadco pen, but the embassy pen is just boring. My CRKT Tao pen is longer, heavier, and has a much better finish to it. I guess I'll be sticking to the Tao pen.

lol the embassy pen writes more comfortably... its actually designed for writing ;)
if parker refills dont bother you i highly suggest the schrade fountain/ball pen if youre looking for something with length/heft & a nesting cap. its dirt cheap too, $25-$30shipped online

The Titaner Titanium Tactical pen for $65

Or the Surefire 1 pen for around $100

I EDC both, and I'm quite pleased.

Whatever you choose, keep your pen clipped to a Moleskin Volant notebook. Keeps you from loosing it, and makes the pen much more useful.

I do carry a small moleskin notebook, but its sunk in my pocket while the pen is clipped to the seam of my pocket so I can grab the cap and use it if needed, vs digging for it.

Cross pens are pretty beefy, all metal, and might go under the radar a little better. I remember not to long ago a thread about some guy getting in trouble for trying to bring a tactical pen on an airplane.

Take a serious look at the Tuff Writer pens at http://www.tuffwriter.com/. The pens are super strong and don't draw needless attention from the 'sheeple' of this world. They come in a variety of colors such as; midnight black, sniper gray, chrome, light green, and hot pink. The only issue, regarding these pens, that I must bring to the light of day concerns the pen's size. The full size (original) pen is 6.5 inches and can tower over other non-tactical pens. The shorter versions measure in at 5.75 inches and 6.0 inches depending on the pen. I like the shorter version much better. I had one of the short ones for a while and had worn it in my shirt pocket without any problems. A month or so later I received one of the larger standard models and my wife commented that it looked like I could stab someone with it. It is fascinating how much a 3/4 of inch can change some one's perception of these pens.
