I love Emerson Knives but.....

I own 4 Emerson knives. A mini commander, a mini CQC15, a CQC7 and an A100. I love the looks, the way they are built for hard use, the blade shape....everything! But....everyone I have ever bought is grimy and not smooth at all when opening at first. Now....most of the time I can take them apart, clean them up and they are fairly smooth, but this A100 will not smooth out. I've taken it apart and cleaned it and opened it and shut it 500 times and its still sticky and gritty feeling. Dont know what to do and also dont understand why I even have to do this to a fairly expensive knife. What do you guys think? First about the fit and finish of the knives and secondly what I can do to smooth the knife out. Thanks!

The recent one's I've bought direct [Persian, Zealot(s), Tiger(s)] have all come extremely smooth outta' the box (especially the Persian).

The F&F thing has been talked about at nauseum. I think the original F&F thread Ernie started is just a few down, about 8 pages of responses.
As to the grittiness, I have had many Emersons over the years and recently got 3 more. All came tight, which I like and needed some break-in. 500 open/closes with things tight should do it. But if you have it loose, the break-in will take longer. Get some good grease on the tracks where the detents run along the blade and do the same with the pivots and pivot hole on the blade. Tighten her up so you can just open/close with one hand (not flick) and open/close for a few TV shows tonight. Others may have more ideas, but that usually gets mine to be buttery opening. I don't flick mine open, unless waving them. I like a nice smooth/controlled opening.

If none of the recommendations get the job done, you can always send it in for inspection.

Emersons magically break in all by themselves. :) They really do.
Nice pack, OM

Maybe it's the mass of the blade, or that I've used it quite a bit, but my Ubr is my smoothest--and I've really done nothing to it. Never took it apart, didn't really oil the pivot (except a drop or so after washing off raw meat), and did't really open and close it much just for kicks... it's just very, very smooth w/ no play at all. Best you can do is just use it; have fun buddy! :D

Emerson's will break in, but by design they will not feel like a knife with polished phosphor bronze washers or bearings. Continue to use it and it will become smoother.

You know what I hate about Emersons?

The fact that I can't find a Bullnose Karambit for the life of me. And that's probably it.

My 2014 is the same way. Didn't think it was an Emerson at first. No lock stick and supes smooth
