THE CHOIL! I have grown to hate the choil on my ESEE 6, I'm here asking for any knives that are similar, without the annoying addition of a choil. Do any of you know of something with similar blade shape/thickness/grind? I have the five but it's a tank, a bit less slice-y than I want. I would be willing to sacrifice blade length for a lack of choil, willing to go down to 4.75 and not thicker than 3/16. Also, similar price range if not less would be nice. I know its a tall order but, anybody know where I could get one?

Becker BK12. It's actually made by rowen (unlike the rest of the Becker line), and it has a high saber grind on a 6in blade that is 3/16in thick. No choil, and the great Becker handles to boot :).

Good luck with whatever you do :).

The Becker BK10 comes to mind. It has a 5.5" blade, 1095 steel, 3/16" thick and no choil. If you want more blade length there's also the BK7, same thickness with no choil and a 7" blade.

I own a BK-7, great knife but it's a pain to choke up one for fine work. I feel like the 10/12 would have the same issue

Get a Surviveknives GSO5.0. Choilless CPM3V goodness!

Wouldn't a knife with a choil be a perfect solution to that problem? Maybe I'm not understanding what exactly you are looking for.

That's the thing, I want the edge to be close to the grip but I don't like choils, on my 7 there is a good inch between my hand and the cutting edge, making it hard to do really fine work.

Yea I'd definitley check out the GSO5, 6, and 4.1. Great stuff, although since using the 3.5, I'm sold on the 1/8th VS 5/32 or 3/16. YMMV
