You never really know how well you have done until you are ready to put your makers mark on. To me thats what makes damascus such a fun challenge.
Have you ever found an inclusion right in the center of the billet? No fun there.:o

The one side was ground to 80 grit and etched. Its 4 inches from tip to shoulders. Its stacked W's that has been cleaved down the center. Feather Pattern is the common vernacular.

This will be a push dagger of sorts.

Thats amazing looking. Almost like its on fire. Fantastic.

Now I have a new favorite pattern to dream about. Thank's Fred! What steels did you use?

Freakin' Fantastic Fred! You are indeed the man.

Even with your jig it's gonna be a loooooooong loooooooooong time before I try to grind on steel that gorgeous. Love to see it when it's done.

Thanks for all the kind words. I will post some pics after I grind the bevels and get the shoulders done.

Regards, Fred

I used 1084x15n20. The original billet had 19 layers. The finished billet contains 75 layers; counting the original 19 layers as 1 layer.

My little bro owns a tattoo shop and is a great artist. He does alot of asian stuff. For some reason the pattern reminds me of a tatt he did on kung fu student of mine. It truely looks like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

Fred are you going to Dover, ohio this week end. More pic's

We do have a road trip under way over the weekend, but we are headed south instead of north. Headed for Carolina.

AS long as there is no snow, I'll be thrilled.

Have a good one, Fred

Great looking pattern!
Have you picked out handle material for this yet?
If not, I am stabilizing a lot of really unusual spalted maple and buckeye burl. I thought one might be good for an early birthday present. Just let me know.
