I love my home..especially this time of year..the dim coolness of it surrounded by full size spruce, Maple, Cataulpa trees. Sitting on five acres with water. This is where I go to get sane from my crazy life...we live in the country so it is always quiet and peaceful....we see turkey, deer, bear, coyote, and numerous forms of bird wildlife..

Our house is 109 years old. It was founded by a man who was given the property at a steep discount for his service with the 1st Michigan Infantry in the Civil War. The first structure was a mud home..the stick house was built in 1898..

it is said that every mans home is his castle...show yours..It would be neat to see the different places we all live.

Our Deck...many hours are spent in the summer sipping ice tea under the cool of these brances of this Cataulpa tree..

Beautiful home. Do you know the approximate date when it was built ? The reason I ask is because the large trees look fairly old, which means there should be some older coins in the ground around them and the home just begging for someone to find them with a metal detector.

Most likely silver and wheats...........:D

Maybe even some old jewelry.........

House was built in 1898..property has been lived on since end of the Civil War. We have found many cool things in the various barns and diggings..the two most noteable were a WWII era Tonka Jeep Truck..which I traded to a toy collector in lieu of removing approximatly 5 cars and 20 household appliances off the property when we bought it.

the second is a abalone button with hand drilled holes..obviously hand made and very old. It was dated as a Indian Artifact and we have this in our curio cabnet..

Wow ! If you have not hunted yet with a MD, then you should get one and start now. There are many months or years of hunting there I'm certain.

My wife and I hunted a similar dated place for 20 years off and on and have found boxes of coins, artifacts etc.

It's the history we enjoy, not the $ value. We have actually found old gold wedding bands, along with antique broaches. It's there waiting for you, and right now while it's cool and shady is a prime time.

I bet I could find an old coin within a minute or two, no matter if someone else said it had been hunted.

Big trees, side walks and places where there are views to other areas are places where people have gathered. Big trees were magnets for people many years ago because they provided shade and comfort. And while sitting and lounging they always dropped things.

Depending on the soil make up, the older coins should be about 2 inches deep. The older indian heads and silver might be about 4 inches deep, easy pickings for most detectors now days.

Again, wonderful home !

Nice spread Ren! Great job on the Ma-deuce emplacements... I can't even tell where they are!

Fabulous home you have there, Ren.

Here's a few pics of my new home. We've been in it for four weeks today. I still can't believe it's mine.

Beautiful House Senator...the lines should be fun when landscaping..A home like that should be a show place with a few well positioned trees and shrubs...

We're hoping to move to a three bedroom later this year.

In all seriousness, that is a great place, Ren. Can I come visit?

As soon as I finish up mowing the lawn I'll post a pic. :D

Nice place Ren. The house is beautiful, but the rural setting is what really makes it appealing to me.

Here's my crapshack:

This is what it looked like the day we bought it. Eight years later the house mostly looks the same, but we've done quite a bit of work to the yard.

The neighborhood lots were drawn out in the 1880s, but the house wasn't built until ~1904. The addition (flat-roofed area on rear of house) was probably 1910-ish. The garage visible in the photo was probably 1920s or later.

The house was originally brick on the first floor and fishscale siding on the second floor. But the brick has been covered with stucco and the fishscale is buried beneath all of that plastic siding. The real gem of the property is the original carriage house (need a photo). It matches the house, but still has the original materials showing.

The brick house next door was 1912 (as I recall). To the right (not visible in photo thankfully) is a run-down rental duplex that is made of real adobe and built in the 1880s.
