And the question is, 'why'?
What do you love about your favorite knives?
What features attract you to knives that you don't already have?
This question is for makers and collectors alike. Especially the makers:)

Lets go for......................
Beautiful hamon, deeply figured wood, unique colored wood, and well thought out/executed blade/handle design. My fav. is my sig. line Buxton EDC in Box Elder Burl & 52100.

My new DKC Companion.

It was made by people I have met personally.
It is my first knife that is not mass produced.
While not mass produced, it did not cost me as much as my riding mower.
The weird sense of pride has me picking up my camera and perhaps a new hobby.

I love my knife because of the enjoyment of making the knife.

It is usually a short love affair and then on to the next love.

What attracks me to the knife that I don't already have is the the fit and finish of the knife. My dream knife would have to be a Lake folder with stag inserts. It is a dream but you have to have dreams.

.... This thread already has two people that Ive never met before. Its working.

Not a Maker, and hardly a collector.
But there are a bunch of us out there that fit somewhere in between. ;)
I do now appreciate good photographers a bit more too after my first attempts at capturing both my knife and my bow at once. hehe.

My favorite knife is my "Hedge Hunter" because of the blade and handle geometry. I carry it almost everywhere. My favorite part is how it feels in the hand.:)

I buy all types of customs, recently I’ve had great luck with used customs. The knife I love now is a warncliffe Remington bullet style with an O1 blade (60Rockwell). It has a steel pivot, nickel silver bolster pinned construction and thick brass liners. It has reddish jigged bone handles with a brass thong hole. It is convex ground.

Why do I love it?

It is 15 years old, but recently reconditioned and only with me for 2 months. I like the fact that it was a user and continues to be used today. I like the little dents in the brass and nickel silver that still polish up to a great sheen. I never liked warncliffes until I got this one. I liked “belly” to my blade, but this knife is very useful and I can do w/o belly, even my own :) I love the convex grind, it cuts like a razor through paper but is very tuff and will cut through radiator hose w/o a blink. I love the way the O1 turns black with pickle juice and grey with onions. I love the way it becomes a mirror again at night as I watch TV and flitz away. I like the pepper from old rust on the inside of the backspring, reminding me of its history. I love the way the tang is not fully parallel with the bolsters indicating the knife was made by a human. Humans are good, humans have flaws, flaws are good…bad logic, but it works if you love humans. I love the way the rounded handle fills my palm. It is a perfect user’s knife. I love the fact the pattern is old, respected and part of slipjoint tradition. I love the way the knife is too big and heavy for my pocket, always reminding me of its presence, just like anything large in your pants, it can get in the way, but it’s nice to know it’s there. ;) I love the fact the knife was born early in a famous maker’s career, a maker who has left this style long behind for 2K+ knifes to feed his family. I love the fact the maker talked to me about it indicating it was a custom, not a standard and he remembered the knife and the customer. Last and least, I like the fact I paid $100 less than dealer's list for it because of the former rust and age.

I also love the fact it is used, pinned construction, brass, nickel silver, jigged bone and carbon steel slipjoint. All of which most of the self proclaimed experts on this forum hate. BTW, the knife routinely gets compliments from non-knife people, including women.
