I must say after reading these forums for a while I decided to get a knife. I was a little hesitant on the assisted opening function at first. I was on vacation and we passed a gun and knive store so I thought I'd pop in and take a look around. at the front desk they had a display case full of kershaw knives and the lady running it allowed me to look and hold the knives. I asked to handle the chive. I fell in love with the speed safe! I said it was a little small so she handed me the leek.

the moment I got home I went online and bought a leek (1660) and I've been carrying it for the last few days. I've never carried a knife before, now that I carry one i realize how handy they are! I have gotten a few cuts from it though (not while using it, just while playing) I have a nasty one on my left thumb, the blade caught it as it was opening and left a half inch long gash. its amazing though how clean of a cut this thig was. there was no blood at fist and no pain just this big flap of skin (then it started GUSHING!)

but that was my fault, all in all im very happy that I found this site (and this knife! Thank you Kershaw!).

Welcome Jerb.

That's cool. Glad to have another knife person around. They sure are handy tools. Leeks are great knives. I've owned 3 of them and they were all schweeeet. :)

We've all cut ourselves playing with our knives. I know I have. I have cut myself with a Spyderco Delica, a Benchmade 905, and a Benchmade Griptilian.

Great times. :)

Jerb, welcome to BF's, the Kershaw family, and the world of knives. Glad to hear about you love for SpeedSafe, fun and handy stuff for sure. Sorry to here about your cut, but that knife was no doubt meant for you. Enjoy your Leek!

My Leek cut me too! That's why I only own 9 of the durn things; I'm a little afraid of 'em;) :D !

yep the leek is a slick little knife, i've got one and have been very happy with it. welcome to bf but you should be warned, constant exposure to this forum will cause a severe drain on your bank account, frequent marital disagreements, and cut fingers. but it's a lot of fun. later, ahgar
btw you need another knife the leek is getting lonely.

lol I couldnt have gotten away with just one cut. I was playing with the speedsafe again (I love you and your company Tomas W [In a completely heterosexual sort of way]) and I almost dropped my knife (Not my new knife noo!) so without thinking I quickly grabbed it

well grabbing at a falling knife wasnt the smartest thing i've done. the blade caught my left index finger. i have a NICE gash there, considering going to get a stitch or two if I cant get the bleeding to stop :( . good news is I didnt get ANY blood on the knife. I must say the factory edge is great, rivals some scalples I've used. The cut is very clean, top notch
*EDIT* Bleeding has subsided :D, YAY*

we'll see how it goes, I should prolly stop playing with my knife

I cant tell you all how much I love this knife, if I can get a shot or two of it (my camera doesnt seem to like closeups) I'll post em in the morning

cheers

I got my Spec Bump on a Monday morning and by that same afternoon had almost amputated the first 1/2" of my pinky while trying to figure out the best way to close the Stud Lock. It didn't help that I was driving down the road when it happened, but knowing the clutz I am, I had napkins and bandaids with me and only got a small drop of blood on the floor-board carpet while reaching for the kit. I wrapped it up and shrugged my shoulders and said to my knife, "Now we're blood brothers!" Hasn't bit me since! She's obviously a sensitive little sharp-tongued devil!

I want a Leek one of these days, but I'm waiting at the moment for my Offset to arrive, and I think next on my list after that is one of the large Cyclones. I'm a big guy with big hands and I prefer fairly big knives, so the rather compact little Leek is kinda low on the priority list. But I have handled several of them and think they're great knives. When I do make the leek...er...I mean...leap, I'll have to go for the G-10/S30V model.

Can't go wrong with the g10 s30v, that's my edc now and has been for a long time. People complain about sharpening S30V and what not, but since it holds it longer (and better), just a few licks on the finest stone and it's shaving sharp.

Hey, Jerb, welcome!!! Don't fight the knife addiction.... just pace yourself. ;)

LoL after I bought my first knife , over the next few days I had so many little cuts on my hands.
Excellent choice with the Leek, its a great knife.

I know what you mean, I sharpened y s30v spec bump the other day just fine, and it went right through my big toe like it was warm butter!:p

Lesson learned: Don't ever sharpen without the guards, sitting indian style barefoot!!!:D

yeah, I finally went out today and bought some gorrilla glue, the damn cut keeps opening (its such a fine cut, its amazing!)

this isnt going to dissuede me, fear not! Im loving this knife soo much Ive considered picking up its rainbow brother (and maybe his black boron cousin aswell!)

lol this place certainly is a deathtrap for my wallet, so many knives are starting to catch my attention (I never realized how many uses there are for a knife!)

thank you all, as a community!

looking at all the pics: My knife didnt come with one of those nifty cases, just a cardboard box

I hate to throw rocks on such a fine topic as leeks, but I just got the g10 leek thursday and by friday the speed safe failed. Would close most of the way, and then felt as if the torsion bar was "jumping" out of the slot? Sent it off to Kershaw for fix. Is this kind of thing normal? Is the leek prone to fail?

I have bought a total of 4 leeks in my time, one for a gift, one is the raimbow, one I lost plain egde and one I replaced the lost one with "serrated" . .none have ever failed me on the speed safe, and I am a flicker . . sometimes when I am writting I flick it just to play with while thinking . . and . . never a problem.

Don't worry they will happily take care of it for you.:)
