Has anyone.....repeat ANYONE.....ever been DISSATISFIED with a Delica?

Not as to size or use which is specific, but as ..WHAT IT IS....have you EVER been dissatisfied with a Delica?

I was very dissatisfied when a Swiss airport security guard took mine away back in 1997.

Other than that, no.

Yes. My first Delica was back in about '93, it was a 60/40 CE (so that will tell you how old!) I still have it, btw. The problem I had was that it had horizontal blade play and I hated that. I ended up taking a hammer and punch to the pivot rivet (I was flying blind here, didn't know what exactly that would do but I had a hunch) and I whacked it, causing it to WAY tighten up. No more blade play, but it sure got more challenging to open! I ended up putting it onto a length of paracord with a Fox40 whistle using a Portuguese Bowline for use on the water. It's semi-retired, though.

In the time since then, I have become dissatisfied with the fact that they are riveted knives, and not screwed together (and thus user-serviceable). That's why I want to get myself a Delica 4... but I keep reading about VERTICAL blade play in those, now, and my old riveted Delicas (about five or so over the years) never even had that!...

I have been happy with my Delica. It sounds like the same model Jeffrey has, with the 60/40 blade. The clip broke off, so now it is a back-up knife in my EDC bag.

My 4 Delica 4's and Delica 3 ROCK as well:D I just checked my PE D4 and it has just a bit of vertical play, perhaps a couple mm's, my D3 was about the same, but it's never interfered with useability for me. My D3 was used a lot, and it never got worse or the lock never gave up. I was also pretty skeptical of the riveted pivot - I've had other blades, where the pivots eventually worked their way looser, my D3 never did that. More important, I never really noticed it until someone mentioned this:) This is a non-issue for me, personally. I have linerlocks where the liner moves over a lot in a very short time with very little useage - THAT annoys me. Especially when I paid more than what I got my Delica's for.

The Delica is one of those designs that just work. It is not the best knife for every task but it is a good knife for lots of tasks. The only improvment I would make on the Delica would be to give it a full flat ground blade. Then I would have no need for my Calypso Jr.!

I love my Delica 4! It was my third Spydie, a black FRN PE version. I love the solid "clack!" it makes when I flip it open. Just for fun, I sanded and polished the Spyder-hole (I know this makes it more difficult to open when wet or wearing gloves, but I use it around the house, so it's no big deal). It feels nice running my thumb over the Spyder-hole, and for me it's just as easy to open as before. A great knife!

I'm a bit disappointed in my Delica, but through no fault of its own. I just like my Calypso Jr. much better. I already had a Cal. Jr. when I bought the Delica; I didn't have it with me and didn't compare them together. Although different, they serve for me the same function, small, sharp EDC.

If I had my Cal. Jr. in hand the day I bought the Delica, I would have gone for something else maybe an Endura. Not the Delica's fault at all; sharp, good lock up, etc.

Not to turn this in to a "Delica vs Calypso" thread, but I have always found the Delica to be more comfortable in my hand.
And I have always hated the very sharp thumb-ramp peak on the Calypso, Navigator, Meerkat, Vesuvius, and Centofante III and IV.

BTW, I like the Salt even better than the Delica!

I like the blade shape and grind of the Calypso Jr. better than the Delica. I just don't like having my index finger so close to the edge on the Calypso Jr., I prefer the Delica handle a lot better. Flat grind Delica and I would be 100% happy.
